We don’t have the hassle with logging in. They are all in a domain. The domain and file server is running Windows Server 2012 R2, but I don’t know what’s inside it.

The hard drive in our PCs are actually quite snappy. Takes maybe 2 - 4 minutes to boot and log in.

But they’re often already running from the lesson before.

We also lost 5 in the last 2 weeks because of PSU failure.

Technically speaking all the machines are in a domain, but it still downloads the bare profile (ie saving a doc on one machine means it stays on that machine), and it's a fucking mess at the start of a school year because you'll have tons of new Chromebooks logging on, raping the wifi, and then at some point you'll have ~30 kids buttfucking the servers trying to get logged into one of the Windows machines, and GOD FORBID you use the Mac lab and try logging on with OS X.

I saw an Athlon 64 X2 at a thrift store for $4, in the box. Didn't pick it up because, as it is, I have a lot of shit laying around.

Although, I do have an old IBM ThinkPad from late 2001.

I want an older ThinkPad that works. I have one (I don't remember the model) but it always freezes shortly after boot, has BIOS issues, and doesn't have the proper power adapter.

Why is everyone posting brand new stuff?

Here is one of my battlestations..  8mhz 286, 512k of RAM.  30mb MFM hard drive and 16 color EGA display.

here on the right is my Commodore Amiga 1000 - the first amiga.  This little guy had preemptive multitasking before any x86 based machine.  On this machine it was possible to download a file in the background AND play a game, all with limited memory and NO HARD DRIVE (OS and games running off floppy only)

Boi that's too dern big. You'll never fill that, let alone the 512K of RAM being 500% overkill! Nobody will ever need more than that.

The IBM one is built like a fucking brick and weighs like one, too.

The rubberized texture on it is starting to show its age but it's not too bad. It has a DVD-ROM drive so it's not like I can't find use out of it.

I would like to get a more "modern" IBM ThinkPad eventually, more as a toy than anything else, but it'd be interesting to have one.

I got this one for free because my band teacher had it and had no use for it. Last use of it was, I believe in May 2011 before I got it. Battery basically is of no use but it works fine.

I still use the T60 daily for work.  I've been trying to convince my employer that they should be providing me a new ThinkPad, but I'd probably be happier with my older one.  If only Lenovo had made more than one SKU of the T25, I'd seriously try to get one of those.

One is a "North Bridge", They wouldn't put 2 CPU's in a laptop (Well a simple dell wouldn't). The good thing is that your CPU Can be upgraded to a Core 2 Duo.

Main Machine:  16 inch MacBook Pro (2021), Apple M1 Pro (10 CPU, 16 GPU Core), 512GB SDD, 16GB RAM

Gaming Machine:  Acer Nitro 5, Core i7 10750H, RTX 3060 (L) 6GB, 1TB SSD (Boot), 2TB SSD (Storage), 32GB DDR4 RAM

Other Tech: iPhone 15 Pro Max, Series 6 Apple Watch (LTE), AirPods Max, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PS3, Xbox 360

Network Gear:  TP Link Gigabit 24 Port Switch, TP-Link Deco M4 Mesh Wi-Fi, M1 MacMini File & Media Server with 8TB of RAID 1 Storage

It would have been upgraded since Core Solo are terrible. As it is I saw a noticeable improvement going from a the Core Duo T2600 in my laptop to a Core 2 Duo T7600.

Lol, that's what happened to my old laptop (the one with the eventual Core 2 Duo). It stopped working suddenly about a week after I replaced the screen's backlight so the HDD ended up being used for storing DOS Box+DOS games (its one of the early+really slow 100GB 2.5" HDD)

That's a looooooot more than 2 drives. The mind boggles.

(and remember, keep yer dick in a vice)

I meant that only 2 of them have problems (spoilers its not the 2x 80MB-they run like new). BTW that's not all of my collection of working IDE drives. I've got these not shown in the photo; 4x 250GB, 2x 80GB, 1x 60GB, 6x 20GB, 1x 10GB, 1x 8GB, 1x 3.2GB.
And then there are these in my SATA collection; 2x 200GB, 1x 100GB, 1x 160GB, 1x 500GB, 1x 2TB (running a 2GB HDD above it is fun).

Edit: I only bought the 2TB, 1x 80GB, 1x 60GB, 4x 20GB, 1x 80GB, 4x 250GB HDD BTW. The rest were all salvaged or given to me with a lot of other pre 2000 parts (my family+family friends had a lot of really old desktops).
