That's true. It's still a cheap CPU that doesn't perform well.

Which sucks for those that had to use it for a long period of time. Then again, I got stuck with a Celeron D 2.4GHz for a few years-and without hyperthreading it was barely better than my Pentium III EB 667.

For basic use it was constantly clogged up, and takes forever to load anything.  An SSD is going in to help the processor, but making a single core in 2009/2010 is pointless for basic use.  The clock speed is fine for budget, but a dual core would have been more logical.  Especially when the integrated GPU shares the RAM with the CPU.  The GPU does not have its own RAM, so that leads to further slow downs when the max these come with is 2GBs of 1066 ram on a single channel.  Upgrades are mostly needed for anyone unless you have tons of time to kill to do work.

Ya, but celerons usually don't share RAM with integrated cards do they?  On top of that aren't celerons dual cores to help with the work rather than just one core where everything gets congested in a single core?

there is single core celerons from the same era as your athlon, probably similar performance. OS's were lighter back then.

True, but I guess I'm just personally annoyed with it.  xD

I tried running anything modern on this pent m but XP is the best thing for it.

I remember having an S3 video card and they wouldn't let the linux community know anything about the chip so it was best guess. I was happy as a clam when I got slackware 1.whatever up and running. Thank you

S3 S3 ViRGE/GX (Virtual Reality Graphics Engine)

attachicon.gifIMG_20150704_223928-01 copy.jpg

Currently the 6317th best selling CPU on Amazon. Single core at 233 MHz and a 17 W TDP.

attachicon.gifIMG_20150704_224332-01.jpeg

DDR, SDRAM, and two sticks of who knows what. Both sticks of RAM are 256MB. The SDRAM runs at 133MHz while the DDR runs at 266MHz. I really have no idea what the other two sticks are

attachicon.gifIMG_20150704_224232-01.jpeg

I have Windows 95 both on a CD as well as 22 floppies. If I can find all the floppies, I'll post it. I also have Norton Security on floppy.

If we can arrange getting that SDRAM to me for less than a dollar (I have 93 or 97 cents lol), I'll take it. I've already got 3 matchers, and my dual-PIII build would love to have 1GB of RAM. ;)

Ubuntu supports PowerPC? That's impressive

Yep, is a struggle for me as I have S3 chrome pro graphics in my old but primary laptop so it's really a struggle to get drivers for it. The built in driver support of larger destroy now is amazing and you can do basic tasks on most machines without getting the correct drivers installed.

- 200watt PSU

- 10Mbit ethernet card.

- millenium pass (y'know, for fixing the 2k bug)

- sound blaster live (added this in to actually have sound)

- 4MB S3 vga card (was upgraded from an older 1MB vga card)

lol @ OP posting DDR2 RAM and a C2D as "retro" ... seriously!??!?!

Got some 6GB PATA drives, 1.44MB floppys, a PowerMac G4 PPC with an Nvidia 6XXX AGP with good old SDRAM, an old P4 dell with AGP also, etc ... Though I would call them old, I wouldn't call them "retro"

Show me a 386 or a 486 ... hell, even my friend P3 I would call retro, tried to fix it 3 years ago and realized I couldn't find parts for it at a reasonable price! lol

The fuck is your point? It's not up to date, therefore it's retro. Deal with it. If you can't, then ignore the thread. Not hard to NOT click on something.

wow ... attitude much???

by your definition ; "not up to date" means 99.9% of the tech hardware out there is retro ... IE, a brand new motherboard that doesn't have the latest update is then retro.

I didn't came in this thread attacking anyone, if you feel like I did then sorry to have offended you. Maybe you're not but I'm hangging here to learn and have fun, on that, have a good day!

I was also given this Zalman cooler which is missing 90% of the mounting hardware. Which makes me sad, since I kinda want to use it with the 860K I'm going to be getting.

And a while ago, I got this 15" Dell monitor. I wish it was 1280x1024, but it's only 1024x768. :(

I'd me using it myself, but I lost the motherboard for it  :( , unless it would fit into a Super Socket 7 Motherboard (that needs all of the electrolytic caps replaced with polymer caps-all other components are tested and fine)?

What happens when you try to install Windows or Linux? When my OCFR had that problem I simply ran Memtest, removed the 2 DOA 512MB SDRAM sticks and removed the failed Seagate Ata IV 20GB HDD (it caused the entire computer to act erratically) and everything was good.

Linux exits with a kernel panic, Windows 7 gets some USB related BSOD, and Windows 8 just flips shit and displays random BSODs. But, I'm buying an 860K and GA-F2A88X-UP4 to replace it.
