This is why I love light weight Linux distros. I have an old old old Dell Centrino laptop which was running Xubuntu and I could watch 720p H264 videos no problem, the Banias or Dothan it had in it was sufficient for light web browsing and basic use still and still could be if the battery wasn't hopelessly dead.

 I have solution for this type of problem. For example I can replace IBM IDE HDD to micro SD card. IDE to CF, CF to SD, SD to micro SD. It will work as SSD for this, and make IBook or another laptop quiet.

 

Oh... I just google it. there is IDE to MicroSD adapters.

Linux distros for Power PC architecture just awful. Slow, and sometimes just do not work.

I wouldn't know where to start with something like that. So many different slot types and ports + configuring everything to play nice together. 

 

Similar specs to my first pc. Only thing I did to that was add a modem. I 5hink 8 got lucky when I chose the slot to put it in.

Get more RAM for it, over 16MB Windows 95 just flys man. We had 40MB in our Acer after we upgraded it and dang it was so much smoother! There's some tweaks in Windows to make it disk cache less and use memory more, really speeds things up when it's not hitting up the disk as often.

Just found two more SIMM sticks :-) And K6. And Socket7 motherboard with both, SIMM and DIMM slots. And there is problem appears from nowhere. I just can't find any blank CD-R in my city stores.

DIMM memory is faster I think, not shocked you can't find blank CDs anywhere local.

My dad has a kaypro 2 and a Kaypro 2000 somewhere, I will post photos and specs later.

Here are pics: The Kaypro 2's flopy drive is not working and the Kaypro 2000's batteries have seen better days but in all other regards, they are in good condition.   The Kaypro 2000 has some cool features like a removable keyboard, a built in handle, and a docking port on the bottom.

Interesting how the Kaypro 2000 is an IBM compatible... would have been nice to have a tiny Z80 based CP/M laptop

The 2000 is cool. Looks like a cross between a typewriter and a vtec.

The Keyboard on the 2000 wouldn't look out of place on a modern rig.  Is it mechanical at all?

Here's some of the items I have. 

 

First up an XFX HD 4890 with original box. AFAIK it should still work. The keen eyed will notice that's not the original fan  

 

Next is some random Cyrix cpu I have.

 

Last is my sealed pack of 5.25" floppy disks with lifetime warranty .

Haha yea, back then just about everyone made floppy disks so who knows where they are now. Canadian Tire where they were bought still exists but they'd probably pull the typical "the lifetime warranty is only available through the manufacturer" deal. Also that hd 4890 has a lifetime warranty too, I wonder if xfx would still honor that.

digging out my hardware closet, i found bits of my first and 3rd computer

 

video cards should be rather apparent. but the first board, is a SOYO SY-5EMA+ paired with an AMD K6-2 400. which i quickly learned to overclock to 500 through changing jumper settings on the motherboard. second board is an ASUS K8V, paired with an Athlon 64 3000+

 

while the Athlon 64 hasn't been started since it retired in place of an Athlon 64x2(which is around here somewhere), the K6-2 was running(with its original Maxtor 8.4 gig hard drive) a few years ago when i wanted to play Fallout 1 again.
