"Yum" those old awful passive matrix LCDs... got one too, snagged a P133 Extensa 650CD from the same time for 30 bucks with all accessories. Basically in "just came out of the box" condition... with both the CD and floppy drive. Thing was like $4.5K back in the day and it seems it really barely was ever used.

Didn't boot, but a total disassembly and CMOS battery replacement later it fired right up, exactly as it was when it was last powered 18 years earlier...

Floppy drive needed a belt replaced but works now too. Been keeping the original drive intact and playing with reinstalling stuff on a CF card. Came with W95, and I still haven't been able to get the PCMCIA slots to work on anything more recent unfortunately, even 95OSR2. Rest all works fine on 98.

Hey I know people calling 5 and 6th gen Core CPU's "ancient".

And that's because they bought the device with a spindle drive.

I think we can all agree the proper nomenclature is 'rigid rotating iron oxide binary storage medium' or RRIOBSM for short.  ?

I found this in some tomb  in Egypt and the ghost there said it was a computer so I took it home and sure enough, different combinations take you to alternate realities. Just remember what your home is.

That's more the operator than the tech itself. The cpu is her brain, the abacus would be like an early storage device, it was reliable and stable when placed on it's side but was subject to vibration induced data loss.

Could also suffer from frequent virus attacks due to other connected CPU's

Hahaha ball mice, I remember the battle of keeping clean rollers and then running across someone who NEVER KNEW about cleaning the rollers and picking through 2-3 millimeter of crap on the rollers. Ugh! Back when a PC tune up was as much about just cleaning the peripherals as it was about cleaning the PC!

Clean ball, clean rollers, blow out key board, blow out printer, blow out PC, blow out monitor, THEN fix operating system/de-clutter disc, run disk cleanup to clear up Windows cache etc, then defrag with something like jkdefrag to put files in order on the disc in one contiguous block. OS files on the fastest part of the platters, gap for swap space, then user files in order of most heavily used from faster to slower sections. When you were all done it was really almost like getting a new PC!

Yes! I remember the days of cleaning the mouse and the prefetch folder, stop the Windows messenger from running (not MSN but messenger of windows computers connected via LAN) and getting rid of XP's balloon tips! Good days! ?
