And Conner CP 3041 (43MB), this HDD was a spare. I booted it up one time to check the status. He was at the town hall of my old village. He had been found in a closet. The town hall had said no need this hard drive and it was given to me. It was about 17 years ago

Your Compaq LTE 5400 laptop, I checked on Wikipedia. The top was LTE 5380 ! His display was 1024*768

Was working on my "beast" last night. Very overdue a clean out and and SSD for the OS!

Core 2 Quad Q9300.

8 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 memory.

XFX GeForce 8400GS.

Finally sorted out the GPU fan too, and yes, that is a Fractal R1 fan with its wires cut and soldered onto the connector from the original fan - needs must!

I'm not sure it really warranted NTH1 for repasting everything, but the GPU paste had gone a funny brown shade and both CPU and GPU were rock hard!

WOW! Look at that, it's been a while since I last saw a drive with master/slave configurations and the fact that they still work is even more amazing. It is said that data stored in platters inside of an HDD can last forever, but we are gonna cut that to 200 years to make it more credible, don't do a backup yet we still have about 180 years to go!

Looked great! Performed like a potato. Would not recommend. I returned mine in less than a week. I really wanted it to be my go to portable device but even just doing basic stuff online was painfully slow. The build quality was amazing though. I was using the Windows version so maybe the Android one would perform better... but I don't think they updated them past 7.1.1.... so garbage either way.

Yeah, I was bummed out about it too. Like I said, it was a really well built machine, but the CPU/RAM were just way too slow. Maybe a stripped down version of Windows would work? But I'd rather just wait for something better to come along at this point. I mean it's already a three year old computer and the price is only $50 less than when it came out. They don't even show it as an available product on Lenovo's website anymore. They're just selling old stock at this point. Who knows what the warehouse conditions are like, the batteries probably aren't in the best shape anymore.

Yes, an SP35P2. I really like how compact it is which was so convenient when going back and forth to university. The original fans are also incredibly quiet. I'd forgotten how loud that old Fractal fan is. I need to source something else.

I really dislike having to take everything to pieces to get in to do anything with it though, and having to chop bits out of the chassis to mount SATA drives and drill extra holes in trays to mount 2.5" SSDs.

Yes and yes! I saw the refresh of this model in the Lenovo site for $839.99 and $762.99 in Amazon with better CPU/GPU:

But meh! At that price I can find a laptop with GTX 1050ti or a Ryzen version with a GTX 1650 so I refuse regardless its quality construction, I find a better value deal on the Microsoft Surface Go for almost half of that price. I want a tablet not a Windows 10 thin computer and less with an Atom processor, I experienced that already during the first year of Windows 10 and there was when I realized that Atom is not good for Windows 10 and that Windows 10 is not good as a tablet (at least not for me). This device, the $350 yoga book is more like for notes taking and because of its nice screen you can watch videos in high res. and that's all I need, it seems to me to be well built like you said, cheap and high quality, good looking  and I only hope I don't get dissapointed and that I don't end up returning this one too (I'll try on black friday or cyber monday to add more value and get those chances reduced!)

I'm not opposed to Linux, but I paid for Windows when I got my Yoga Book. Maybe if I got the Android one it would have been an easier pill to swallow, but I just didn't want to deal with it personally. Then again if I did get the Android one, I might still have that device as is since it probably runs a lot better on them.

 

No offense to the die hard Linux users out there, but I tend to only use in on machines that are past their support cycle. Like with older MacBooks, Apple might stop offering software and security updates, but pop in a cheap SSD and load Linix, and boom! You got yourself a nice laptop again for basic use. So from my standpoint, it just seems weird to buy a new machine and immediately load Linux on it. I prefer the ecosystems that Google, Microsoft, and Apple can provide.

Oh that's right, they did refresh it! That hinge design is so smooth and the newer e-ink display on the bottom is definitely a huge upgrade over the previous version. That being said, I still wasn't enjoying the touch screen keyboard as much as how iOS handles that kind of thing. Maybe I could get used to it with enough practice, but even with my iPad I make a ton of typos.

Fleabay seems to have a selection of 2 and 3pin (at least in the UK).

How's your soldering? Assuming you get a new one with the right voltage rating just chop the wires on both and solder the old connector onto the new fan and heat shrink each.

If you can't get a 3 pin then I expect 2 will still work, but may throw a fan error as it won't see a tacho signal.

That hinge!  Yep, maybe this is an expensive tablet with limited options and not much high expectations but I think it looks cool (I am still talking about the $350-$400 one), I think the same about that keyboard, it kills the device because it does not make it mainstream and I think that's why 2 in 1 devices are more succesful than anything like this, in special because of the performance. It is mostly focused on digital inking for creative people, notes taking... Some phones I think they already have the option by default in the keyboard, you can "type" in strokes as if it was a pen instead of pressing digital keys, also some other apps let you do the same with math.

 

 

Maybe more people will be more creative but I am like at this level drawing in devices like that:

it turned out to be a 3395, also as i was taking it apart i was surprised on how repairable this thing is, you can strip this thing to the bone(btw,nice 3dfx cup)

I bought 2 IBM Pingmasters, one which I converted to TMK (a keyboard programming software) and the other I harvested the switches and keycaps from to create a vintage styled 60% keyboard in an Aluminium case.

Yuk...EVERYBODY had the 3310.  It was as common as shite.  I much prefered my 3210 variant much less people had that until it fell out of my pocket and i ran over it in a Cushman lol

 

FYI  All the last two digits do on the old nokias is differenciate between different carriers.  If a phone has the same first two numbers it's the same phone essentially

I've got a little question for you fellow fans of older hardware.  Back when, my family had a Vanilla computer with a 386 33MHz, 4MB RAM and a 20MB hard disk.  It had a Soundblaster 2.0 in it.  Now on the software disks for that card were a few programs.  Little demos really.  One we're all probably aware of being SBAITSO.  There were a couple more however.  One was called Parrot  which replayed anything the mic would pick up and a higher pitch and faster speed.  The other was a demo program for a utility called FM Organ.  My question is does anybody remember the name of the Music in the FM Organ demo?  I've just recently heard it in a youtube video and it's rekindled my curiosity in finding it again.
