And it will still work today! Using a Koolance gold plated block to cool a Xeon X3470!

My old laptop ThinkPad T61p Core 2 Duo T9500 with 1920x1200 display is still good. You don't need to buy a new laptop.

 

Last week-end, I upgrade my PCMCIA port (with eSATA RAID PCMCIA) to combo ExpressCard + PCMCIA ports (it took a lot of time to disassemble to change this piece) and yesterday, I received my USB 3.0 ExpressCard. It works perfect but it limits at 2.5 GT/s (PCIe 1.0). And if I plug on all USB 3.0 ports (3 USB flashs for example), it gives 833 Mbps per port. It's still better than USB 2.0 (480 Mbps)

 

Now, my 12-year-old laptop has 3x USB 2.0 ports, 3x USB 3.0 ports and 2x eSATA 1.5Gbps ports

That's what I did for my old Tecra M5 (well sort of). 3x USB 3.0 in the card slot adition to its port replicator (PS/2 connectors for mouse and keyboard, DVI, Gigabit ethernet, 3-4 more USB 2.0 ports, S-Video). I should try to find the dock again. The laptop was actually good for retro gaming with its quadro nvs110M/Geforce 7100Go 256MB and C2D 7600.

Yes, it's SATA 1 and I changed the hard drive 100GB by the SSD 120GB SATA 2 OCZ Vertex 2 (his performance was ~200MB/s in SATA 2 mode. With SATA 1, I lost only 50MB/s for this SSD, it's nothing).

 

It's old, I bought it in new a long time ago but it still works with perfect health

Even when you don't get the full bandwidth the near instant read/writes of the SSD make a system feel SO much more responsive. My Atom netbook was impossible without a SSD!

I'm loving the dual SSD's in RAID on my Dell XPS "laptop".  They are basically the cheapest thing I could buy and still make a world of difference.  Don't think just because you have SATA1 that it isn't worth it.

Yes and yes! I can imagine, I don't consider the Atom processors as the best processors for mobile (knowing that today the Intel Core M family exists) but I still want one device that comes with that processor, it doesn´t give me the chance to swap the storage device but it is a flash memory. I will use it mainly as a tablet and I think I'll go for the Android version instead of the Windows version because I like more how Android works for tablets than Windows.

Oh, alright! At that time I was a host at a bed and breakfast and I remember that when they bought the laptop its price was about US $ 2000. it was an XP computer I don't remember the model and it didn't even have a wireless connectivity, you had to buy the express card with the Wi-Fi antenna.

I was wrong. I found my old mail. I bought it in used from eBay for 61 €, 6½ years ago.

 

And I bought my T61p laptop in used from eBay for 214 €, 8 years ago

 

OCZ Vertex 2 in new, it was 40GB from online store for 75 €, 8 years ago (and I still have it, I use it in my 2.5" enclosure. Before, it was for operating system)

It's Lenovo's Yoga Book 10´, I've seen it around 400 US dollars, 25 less or more depending on the link you use and about 200 US refurbished, but the lowest I saw it was 300US on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, one of those ...

My 2 setups one for each floor. First one is a i5-6500, rx 580, 16gb of ram, redragon keyboard, and handmedown mouse.

This is my "spare" pc though I may end up using it more just because it's in a location I spend more time (my bedroom). This is rocking a i7-2600, 16gb ddr3, and b-stock 1050ti/power supply from evga. Monitor is my "old" monitor I picked up on black friday last year for like $150 that came with a $50 gift card from dell. That's how I bought the nice 2.1 system for the main rig. Chairs and desks are craigslist/goowill pickups. I like not wasting perfectly good stuff. I really should get some 5.25" bay covers but, not sure I care. Speakers are daytons i picked up at goodwill for $5 for the pair. Just need a tiny cheap amp to power em. Though I somehow ended up with a freesync display on a 1050ti now. Can I make that work?

Nvidia added support for freesync recently so you should just have to go into settings and enable it.  That being said a lot of those monitors advertised as freesync were never really able to support it properly.  Only way to know is to try.

No, not really! When searching the Intel ARK page one finds a lot of things that you had no idea they existed!
