I had a freaken Lg r410 laptop 14"  (2008)

it had a core 2 duo p8600 2.40ghz , 9400M gs ,4 gb of ram , 320 gb hdd .

one year ago it made me really proud when it ran win 10 

i few weeks later thew mobo died (idk why maybe the gpu was dead)

i replaced the mobo but that one only had intel graphics , which made me really sad .

then i took out one of those 2 gb ddr2 SODIMMS and dumped it into a 1 gb ram acer aspire one (D255E) .

so both of em rocks win 10 but the prob that my Lg only has 3gb of ram (weird i know)

anyone of u guys had an Lg laptop from that era ?

cuz they are kind of rare

32 bit Windows XP can only address 3 GB of RAM.  Windows 7 can usually address a little more but still less than 4 GB.  Most manufacturers never bothered putting more than 3 GB in a 32 bit system for this reason.

that laptop had full access to the 4gb of ram i put in it

My apologies.  The p8600 is 64 bit.  I have a Core 2 Duo T7600 from a year earlier and it only has 32 bit instruction set.

Well I'll be damned.  I tried installing Linux Mint 64 bit and the install failed. Said I needed a 64 bit CPU.  I will have to revisit that.  Unless for some reason the chipset doesn't support it?

Just finished running GeekBench on it after finally getting a 150W power adapter for it.  The low score is while running on the 90W. 

 

It would appear it is definitely a Core 2 Duo T7600.  Also I saw the CPU itself when I scraped off the cement that was parading around as thermal paste.

Well a Core2Duo should be 64bit, I ran Win7 64bit for a long time on an E8400 and now on a Pentium E6800 both with 4GB or more RAM all working.

so currently the pc im gaming on is pretty old but still gets the job done in some games , its a gigabyte ga-h61m-s1 motherboard with a celeron g530 2.4ghz  cpu 8 gig ram with a amd/msi r9270x gpu a corsair vs650w psu and a 2 tb hdd

I must to find a 150W power adapter for my ThinkPad T61p (Core 2 Duo T9500 2.6GHz and Quadro FX 570M => 80 W TDP for these 2 chips together). My original power adapter is 90W.

If it only calls for a 90W I doubt you'd see a performance increase.  Mine shipped with a 150W but I only had a 90W on hand.  The laptop forced the CPU to 1ghz because of insufficient power.

Well I finally got the XPS M2010 back together.  Mostly.  I ended up buying 2x SSD, 2x HDD Caddies, 2x 2GB DDR2, Keyboard battery, 150W Power Adapter, Replacement top cover for the optical drive.  I'd like to find the original mouse (may have but not sure), a replacement working battery for the laptop, and replacement top covers (ruined by 200lb gorilla that pulled the drives).  There are some scratches and what not, it's not perfect but it works great so far.  Here's the DVD drive mechanism I fixed.

I found my old Christmas catalog 1997. Surcouf was the largest computer shop in France for 10 years (bankruptcy in 2012).

 

 

In 1997, 6 FRF = 1 USD (and 1 USD in 1997 = 1.60 USD in 2019)

 

For fun, 24GB HDD Seagate was 36690 FRF (= 9784 USD in 2019)

 

Intel Pentium II 300 MHz bulk (high performance available) -> 5790 FRF (= 1544 USD in 2019). Humm, you can say that the Core i9-990K is not expensive (3 times cheaper)

 

And Apple is still expensive, even in 1997... Power Macintosh 9600/300 (64MB RAM / 4GB HDD / CD drive 24x / ZIP internal drive) -> 29359 FRF (= 7829 USD in 2019) And Apple monitor was not included.

 

And I am amazing for Matrox Millennium II 8MB (MGA-2164W), I read that it support up to 1920x1080 at 75 Hz. It was nice! If you have this old graphic card, you can to use it on a full HD monitor with VGA port

This reminded me that a few years ago my dad found one Matrox Millennium II 8MB and it was PCI. He found it in a pile of junked old computers together with a ISA sound card. The sound card we didn't even test, but the Matrox was used for a while in an eMachines PC (this PC is in my signature). And it did work, but for some reason it was slower than the integrated ATi 3D Rage Pro AGP 2x 4MB, so it ended up sitting somewhere and then my dad took it, the ISA sound card and a bunch of other old computer hardware to the junkyard (or recycling centre, I have no idea what it was). There was also a working 350MB HDD (or maybe it was 850MB, can't exactly remember, I had only a few minutes with this HDD).

Great news!  I noticed the battery led stopped flashing its error code on the XPS M2010. So I decided to unplug it and see what would happen.  It stayed on!  Not only that but I was able to play Age of Empires on battery power for an hour and 50 minutes before it shut down on me.  Not bad for this behemoth.  I have no idea how the battery "recovered" itself. But it did.  Don't look a gift horse in the mouth I guess?
