the x5650 is barely pushing 10 years old at this point.. It even still outperforms many current chips .

From a performance standpoint , it's still incredibly usable , just like the core 2 chips before it . Retro would be 20+ years , like the pentium 3 and older

It's retro to me Lol...compared to the 7700k at 5-5.2ghz and 1100ish passes in CB...Bigggg difference not to mention DDR4 and not sata2.

But yeah know what you mean still a good and cool chip. Clocked comes Alive muchhh Better. But only a handful of boards that can do so.

It don't go over 45c on that water setup..maybe the damn thing will run for another 10 years who knows...actually fine goofing off messing around maybe a few indie titles easy stuff to run. still enough Performance there. a little tougher titles yeah some frame drop but nothing major...idk I'm sure could find something a little more modern that would dog it at that clock.

I guess it's all relative. IMHO if it processes data at 32bits or more, it isn't retro :)  Also, if it can run Microsoft's latest OS, it's not retro.

spent some time sorting my collection yesterday.. this is about 1/4 of the full collection

recently picked up a Commodore 128.  Funny there is an entire C64 built into the hardware.  You type "GO64" to switch to C64 mode - which is all the time because the only C128 software i have is a copy of CP/M.

Bonus points for guessing which game that is.

Ha ha. I have a couple old netbooks (they're also Aspire Ones). They work, but one has a failing 1TB hard drive (that I put in) so it doesn't do too much. Windows 8.1 on an Atom is too much.

I think I have 3 Aspire Ones laying around here somewhere in all varying degrees of broke, and I can defiantly understand that, Windows XP all the way on them!

Fired up the old beast today and the old molex splitter up and died, so I replaced it with a brand new one, as well as swap the 70mm fan for a 92mm Beta V to get more airflow to the RAM and northbridge since I think that's causing my instability (also took it out of the desk cabinet where it lived since I have room for it outside now that my main rig is down). Figured I might as well take a shot of the internals even tho it's a shitty lowlight pic.

I ironically call it the coolest because its actually quite the housefire. This is AFTER cleaning and new paste. And no its not done wrong, i thought i messed up somewhere, i did the whole process 4 times and it still idles at 72c. Though it maxes at about 85 and its shutdown temp is 95 so im technically OK.

I kind of miss my old laptop with its P4 Ht 3.2GHz and Radeon 9000igp.  Though despite what Compaq/HP said (and the version of DirectX on 1 of the included discs) it couldn't handle any DirectX 9 game.  The iGPU would simply lock up.
On the plus side it ran all DX 8.1 or older games just fine and has full driver support for Windows 98Se.  It also flogged the crap out of the desktop my Mum bought later-it only had a Celeron D 2.4GHz and SIS graphics.  Though it at least could handle Halo 1 and Halo CE at playable frame rates
