Show off your old and retro computer parts

Here's a few of my retro parts from past builds.

The motherboards are an MSI P6N SLI Platinum, and an ABit AN8-SLI.

The GPU's are an EVGA GeForce 7900 GS and an ATI Radeon X1950XTX.

The RAM is a matching set of 4 512mb DDR 400 modules.  The first RAM I ever bought brand new!

I'm thinking about building one from that MSI board I pictured.  Just have to find the right GPU's to use.

That is the VRM module.

I believe that because this is an ITX board there was not enough room so they built a separate PCB for the VRMs and attached and connected it to the mobo.

I think it looks great and it has a nice blue heat sink on it as well.

The Cyrix and Pentium Pro CPU’s bring back a lot of fun memories when I was just getting into computers.

I have been looking for a way to get into late 90's early 2000's retro computing but didn't want to have another huge desktop system.  Trying to find the perfect laptop has been a chore but I think I succeeded today.  $40 and 3 hours at a State auction and I have this beauty.

 

 

Anyone guess what it is?  I'll give you a hint.  Under the heat sink on the right is this...

The whole machine is weird.  It also has a Core 2 Duo T7600 @ 2.33 Ghz.  It originally shipped with 2gb DDR2-667 in dual channel and two 100gb HDDs in RAID 0. Both the RAM and HDD had been removed.  I was able to find one stick in my rummage pile for testing and everything seems to work so far.  I did have to order HDD caddies.  Why do people throw these out??

Generally if I'm getting rid of a laptop, I get rid of the whole laptop minus a hard drive.

I understand that completely.  But why not take the time to put the empty caddy back?  They can be areal pain to find replacements sometimes.

I know how you feel.  My daughter was born the same year XP was released,  now she's old enough to vote.

So very close.  It's a Dell XPS M2010.

Currently waiting on HDD caddies, 2x SSD, 4GB Ram kit,  CMOS battery, top cover for the optical drive (hinge point broken for the motorized lift mech), and a new AC adapter (requires 150W, the 90W I have locks the CPU at 1Ghz). 

 

Things I'd like to find if anyone knows a source: 

The original mouse that shipped with it

A reputable company that can rebuild the battery pack 

Replacement back cover for the screen (soft touch is starting to get sticky)

ATI Radeon Mobility X1800

And my alternative to that is an Asus A3H (upgraded from Celeron M380 to Pentium M 770, 2GB DDR2 and a 160GB HDD) with Intel 915GMA graphics, or an Asus F3L with Pentium T2370, 2GB DDR2 (chipset limit - older Tecra M5 which started with a Core Duo supported 4GB) and Intel X3100 graphics.

 

I don't think that I'll ever upgrade the CPU in the F3L though. It kind of sucks that the T7600 that I put in my deceased Tecra M5 isn't socket compatible.

I've still got my pair of Trinitron screens in the basement, one Dell and one IBM but both the same tube. Amazing screens!
