If I remember correctly the SIS chipset was actually quite good.  That board is a bit lacking in expansion though. More so than some Baby AT SS7 boards.

What 2D card you gonna use for it? Shame you'll be limited to ISA for it.

This is the Graphics Card and CPU from my old PC.

Edit: I probably should have just taken the photo with both of them at the same time.

I'm all about small form factor, have a couple of socket 7 boards in storage but I wanted to use this pcchips one for use in a matx case with some tempered glass and RGB for the lols

One thing I've found quite funny, is that my ATX case from 2004 (originally had a Celeron D and later on Pentium 4 630) actually full on supports AT motherboards. As in all AT motherboards. As does the case that was originally part of my mum's old Celeron 433+TNT2 Vanta rig.
Meaning that I have 2x cases with actually decent airflow, which is needed by; my K6-2 500, SLi Voodoo2 12MB, Riva 128ZX and Gigabyte GA-5AA (had it running under XP with 1.5GB of RAM....it's that compatible with everything).

BTW, I recommend avoiding the use of any PCchips motherboard. Only 1 of their motherboards (and only the first revision at that) as far as I'm aware wasn't a flimsy, unstable and slow mess. Its best kept as a curiosity, a relic from one of the sleaziest motherboard manufactures to ever exist (they also did fake cache).

i dont mean to sound like a MAJOR ASSHOLE

but thats the point of ATX, its backwards compatible with AT, atx was just an update to a few of the standards such as PSU dimensions and connectors

I'm talking about the motherboard form factors. AT boards have different mounting points for the most part.

That's really similar to my parent's first "windows" based PC back in '99 IIRC. Windows 98, Celeron 333, originally 32mb ram which I later upgraded to 384, 2x HDDs with combined 4.3GB total capacity, and a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI GPU that I also added a little later on. Fun times. :)

i am not acquainted much with pre XP hardware and i entirely forgot that most 3D voodoo cards didnt do 2D stuff

i was gonna use the ISA slot for a sound card because i have some nicer older soundblasters i wanted to try

i think in that case im gonna have to go with a single voodoo 2 (primarily because HOLY SHIT THESE CARDS ARE EXPENSIVE) but also because i have no idea what im looking for

I have this, a diamond multimedia stealth 64 S3 Trio

Because why not have a stupidly complicated name

i know this is a 2D and not 3D card, ive used it once or twice before in a friends windows 95 machine while he was troubleshooting it

i might need to go use a bigger board because i want voodoo 2 SLI

Yeah that's really the one downside to VD2 SLI that kinda keeps me away from it (well that and price + not really needing that setup). Though it is one reason I love my VD3. Not having to deal with the little passthrough cable as well as a dedicated 2D card is really nice.

That's where you go dumpster diving, or look around for businesses clearing out old systems. That's how I got my first Voodoo2, with its original passthrough and SLI cable. The second one only cost me around $40.

My latest "workstation" .. I brought it into the office so i can have a dedicated distraction-free SSH machine.

I gutted the original dead 8088 and low density /MFM gear from the original PCII and installed a 386SX-25, teac high density floppies, and a 2GB quantum fireball, along with a soundblaster 16.   generic serial ball mouse and Dell bigfoot mechanical 101 key keyboard with ALPS switches.   17" RasterOPs VGA monitor made by Hitachi.

That is quite the cleanup. I'd love to get one of the late 90-s era Alps boards in like-new (or ideally brand new) shape. When I got my BNIB membrane board a few years ago it reminded me how much I like that "series" as a whole.

My Mum's chipped Xbox. Which still works with these exploded caps. Not even my Asus slot 1 motherboard had them fail this badly. And those weren't nichicon caps either.

Was in my parents basement and found my second GPU, my dad's old laptop and some board that says 1978! I know we have some other cools things I'll have to commit to finding some day but this is all for now. Also my mother threw away a very old and valuable Mac computer because it was sitting by the front door for too long ?
