Go for it my dude.

AGP cards aren't too hard to find on my Craigslist listings, but finding ones better than my GeForce4 MX420 are surprisingly challenging.

Craigslist for PC parts here is just ugh... live in Sydney so everything is either junk or 400% the cost it should be in Australian Rupees lol

Oh man, that's gotta hurt.

I wish the used market here in the States was better, I'd love to take $50 and build a budget build like the channels on YouTube do, but that's pretty hard. Here, you could get a CPU and memory if you're lucky for $50, depending on how old the hardware is.

yeah its funny watching budget builds on youtube and then try to do that here and your looking at $1000 or more for a low end system sometimes depending where you shop.

There doesn't seem to be any legitimate way to activate it anymore online or over the phone (tried both).

Managed to get a new factory sealed copy of XP with a genuine licence and was pretty sad to find i couldn't activate it.

i resorted to ... 'less genuine' means to make this copy genuine :)

I'm still able to activate it over the phone just fine. B| Though knowing Microshaft, it's probably because I use MSDN images and keys.

Just recently picked this up

cooler master atcs case with an Athlon xp of some kind, 512mb of ram, GeForce 4 ti 4600

runs windows 2k and supposedly works, it's been used daily since it was made

I haven't had much time to try it out, it powers on and I don't know all the specs yet

came in a massive lot of early 2000's and late 90's computer stuff, I've got everything from an unopened ATI all in wonder to a DFI lanparty board in its box with the harness, ultra xconnect cables, a John Deere pc with a socket 7 system inside, a bunch of voodoos and a pair of GeForce 256's, enough ram to crush someone with, unreleased versions of operating systems and unrelseased games, beta testing documentation, original on disk copies of mods for half life 1, Linux distros that were homemade and sold privately, enough of those transparent lid hard drives to store all my porn on, itellimice, ergonomic keyboards, cathode lights, water cooling hardware, every single socket A processor ever made

Its all there, I'll play with it some in a few weeks

That Cooler Master is something that I lusted after back in the day. It was just too pricey due to it's aluminum design.

I believe it's called the CoolerMaster ATC-201 Mid-Tower: http://archive.arstechnica.com/reviews/01q3/coolermaster/atc-201-1.html

Upgraded from the 80GB 7200.7 to this 250GB Caviar (hoping it won't randomly say no this time) so that my Xbox will have room for the Halo 2 map pack + 25 "legally obtained" games (though it would be more if the third torrent in the set would work, shame because I have some favorites in there) that will hopefully be done downloading by next week. In total 56 games as of right now. Feels good to relive the yung lad days, especially since a few of the games I played on PS2 and obviously look a shitload better on this ol boy.

Epic haul!  post more pics as you unpack stuff.  I've found that the process of sorting your haul is the most rewarding part of the process, it's like digging for ancient treasure.

I'm not an expert! In fact I'm usually just 1 google search ahead of you.

So I visited my parent's house and found my old PC stowed away.  I set it aside before as the power supply blew up and I wasn't into tinkering PC's yet.  Case was ruined by vermin, so I took it apart and tested the peripherals.  Sadly it looks like the RAM and drives were broken, so I couldn't test the GPU.

I have spent some time going through my old hardware and have rebuilt this old bad boy. Athlon XP 2800+ (Barton) overclocked to 2.3GHz (more to come as I source out waterblocks), Asus A7N8X, 2GB (2x1) Corsair ValueSelect DDR400, Sapphire ATi Radeon X850 XT, Western Digital 80GB, some random 700W PSU and a Deepcool Tesseract to house it all. This is all hardware from my younger days and has been sitting in various states of storage since about 2006ish, other than the case and the random PSU.

A true nightmare, you do that once for fun then realize it isn't and hope nobody makes you do it again :P

When the PC is acting up haunted,

who ya gonna call?
"Monotone voice" : A local computer store.

All blower cards operate the same way. In through the center of the fan and out through the cooler shroud (usually out the back). ;)

The old X850 XT did not operate that way. The fan is enclosed and pulls air from the rear of the card, across the heatsink and forces it out the I/o plate.
