Deliding New RPI 3B+

Recently RPI3 Got an little upgrade with higher clock speed metal heat spreader, some upgrades to wifi bt ethernet etc. But this metal heat spreader got my attention, do you think you can delid it to put your paste? Or even watercool it?

Can linus delid it? ><

I mean the new version 3B+. 40 degrees but i couldn't get stable speeds

It is small refresh, gigabit lan if ofc bullshit but 5 ghz in wi fi for example is a hudge difference. Ill have to check on my own. Deliding is just fun idea and i want to test, i respect your opinion, i just think it can make resonable difference

RAM market will tell if they can include 2GB. 

I have some trouble even web browsing on 1Gb of RAM, I even emailed the creators suggesting that more RAM would be a nice addition since 1Gb really isn't much.

Web browsing on a RaspPi is merely a plus. I don't think the point of it is to be a super low-cost computer (even though it can be used for that).

 

The neat thing about the Pi for some projects is that you can put an OS on it, while at the same time allowing you the same facilities as any other MCU board. So you do not even need an IDE. Or even an app to do something like poke a GPIO line, you can do it directly from the command line. It's a tinkerer's board, nothing more. Anything else it does is a plus.

 

Also @ the OP, it's $35. If you had any interest in the RasPi, I'm sure you could spare $35 for a curiosity.

The normal Pi 3 you could OC the base 800mhz to 1450mhz and the GPU to 500mhz and plus 100mhz on the sdram. With a tiny heat sink it wouldn’t break 60C so a delid pointless

That's the only one I know of that wants examples of new hardware. Be aware that I was mostly joking (you definitely won't get the thing back), and that they are in Moscow. As far as I can tell, however, there are no die shots of the Broadcom BCM2837B0.

After reading the pimoroni topic again http://blog.pimoroni.com/a-deep-dive-into-the-raspberry-pi-3-b-hardware/, I've determined that no, the heatspreader is NOT soldered to the die. The die is soldered to an interposer pcb, which is then BGA soldered onto the main Pi. The IHS has a ring of silicone adhesive and thermal paste between the die and the spreader itself.

 

When my pi comes in, I'll be delidding it and posting it here on this site. I'll try to document the entire process.
