How many cigarretes are too much?

Anyone?

Or even a notable emotional or psychological benefit, even if temporary?  Even a lot of narcotics come with a 'high' which is why people often get into those but smoking doesn't offer anything even close to that.

when can I consider this an addiction? I smoke between 5-6 cigarretes daily (red malboros, and red lucky strikes) and Im no cowboy btw.

Addiction is not about how many you smoke, it's about why you smoke. Do you smoke because you feel like you need a cigarette?

Long time smokers had long developed tolerance for it. Smoking doesn’t give them any “high” anymore at such points, instead, many smoke to keep themselves from being depressed and keep withdrawal symptoms at bay. Their brain actually produces lower amount of relaxing and pleasure inducing stimulant than non smokers which is quite ironic.

in short, nicotine will depress you, not give you pleasure after some period.

I... I don't know how you watch porn, but if your porn watching habits involve absorbing anything, then you are not watching porn in the way normal people do. o_____o

lol, missed the point about it can be a type of addiction, not really absorbing anything. it is what it is.

again as for why people start even in their mid 20's.... why do people start drinking, why do people smoke dope, why do people do coke, or any other hard drug, why do people do anything that causes an addiction.

Tons of things have bad sense to them in the eyes of everyone yet people still do it. A wise man says never judge another person until you've walked a mile in their shoes. Even with close friends, you have no clue what they are dealing with internally, or what kind of struggles they are battling. Myself i started smoking in my darkest time. It was a sense of relief be it false or be it realistic.

Thats why quite frank, i'm very confrontational in day to day life when it comes to judgmental people. Its so easy to look down on someone these days for the smallest of lifes issues blanketing them in disgust that its become common and normal and society today is a very screwed up place that i make it known very blatantly when dealing with people i wont take that crap.

Get help. It will take you a lot of effort to quit and a lot of effort to not touch cigarettes ever again, but you're better off quitting smoking. Your doctor can give you prescriptions for nicotine patches, which is one of the few treatments out there.

I've grown up and lived around smokers, and yes, you can see the effects on them. One of my old math teachers quit school and spent half a year in Switzerland to get treatment for his lungs, knowing he would run off at the end of each class to smoke one (1 every hour). His wife, same issue. Another one of my teachers was barely in his 40's yet looked 50-ish already. Coughed constantly, smelled horrible.

My father himself used to smoke (when it was normal, like 20 years ago), and ended up quitting when me & my brother where born.

Just quitt and you'll lead a much happier life. I know it's difficult, but if you think you're having an issue, you're better off puting the work needed. Good luck.

Smoking not only affects you, it affects the people around you. I can't stand it when heavy smokers come onto the bus and sit next to me because all you can smell is a mixture of body occur and greasy tabacco (and sometimes weed because Vancouver). Plus that second hand smoke clings onto your clothing so you come home smelling like a bum even though you're not the one getting high.

Oh it reeks and its bad and its horrible

Theres always that one that just fucking reeks yet they are sitting 3 rows behind you.

There has been times where I literally gagged from the stench coming off those peeps.

There has been times where I had to move away.

I know a guy who has asthma and its severe and he is strict on peeps who smoke, like go away into a cave.

For myself if they blow smoke my way, I get highly aggrevated and annoyed.

As someone else said, try going two days without a cigarette. You'll know if you're addicted.

First one is too much.

But you are addicted when you are not able to do 2 weeks or more completely without it.

if "you smoke", you consider yourself a smoker, or you're trying to quit, you're already addicted.  For it to not be an addiction, it would have to be something that is not routine, and something you just decide to do, not something you get pulled into by cravings.  Judging by the "5 to 6 per day", I would say this is a serious problem.  Sure some people are worse yet, but do not fool yourself.

Almost no one bellow 35 years smokes where I live. A lot of people use snuff tho, but snuff is much less bad for your body and doesn't affect others. Still cost much tho.

If you can't manage to stop smoking, I would recommend to at least to over to using snuff. It's better for you. And then maybe try to stop completely from that.

Nope took a day off and forgot about this post, I started smoking since I was 15-16yo. Its not hard getting cigarettes where I live. I never had problems buying it because I look much older, Ive had a beard since 7th grade. Cigarettes here arent that expensive, about 2usd for the 20cig packs.

I dont really remember why I started smoking, prolly just out of curiosity. One thing Ive noticed is that I get tired very quickly. I used to be very athletic, i ran 5miles every day now I cant even run 100m without feeling exhausted af. What im trying to do is smoke less because I do feel like I need the cigarette

Thats what cigarettes do, they turn your lungs into tar, you probably have a black lungs now.

You should try nicorette gum and the patch along with a cessation program.

"First one is too much"

I'm not gonna nag because there's been enough of that ITT. 5-6 is pretty excessive daily, though.

I grew up around smokers and think it messed me up since I sometimes smell cigarette smoke randomly when there is no smoke around. Think about the others around you before you light one. One or two daily, while bad, is a good point to start if you're seriously concerned and then ween yourself from there is my advice.

Why anyone would smoke knowing how bad it is for your health? I have no idea. But if you still must do it, do us all a favor and don't smoke around anyone other than other smokers, especially your kids. I've seen so many horrible parents smoking while pushing a stroller or holding their kids hands, it makes me lose hope in humanity.

why eating junk food/sugar stuff and unhealthy if you know what it does to your body?

why drinking energy drinks, even they destroy your liver over time even worse than alcohol?

why drink alcohol if you know what it does to you and your surroundings?

Like I said before I'm neither pro/contra smoking...

What you do to yourself well keep it in the right amounts and usually it won't harm you much. Going above to harmful doses can be bad for your health...

Someone some time said :"Living is bad. It always end in death." *shrug* yes that one is a mean one but hey... I rather look back at my life when my time comes and say "hell yes, a hell of a ride, done a lot, lived a lot, time to go and take the well deserved rest" instead of "what? now? I was vegan, resisted everything, did tons of sports sometimes in agonizing amounts to stay healthy, I can't go now, I have so much still to see and experience..."
