Hm. definitely can't relate to the 2080Ti part, but yeah i'm currently planning on using my b150 board for my folding rig vs my x58 pc, as it seems to have much better slot spacing for dual GPU

Umm ... Houston, we have a problem. I can't find my #@*^%%) thermal paste. Got the 3900x up and running but am going to have to do a shuffle to get at the system the 9900K goes in and luckily I went to get everything ready first. So I have a NH-D15 and the 9900K just sitting there until the store opens tomorrow.

Lack of stockitis. Wanted the KF actually. Don't need an iGPU in a system with 2 RTX2070 Super Hybrids.

 

Once I get it installed I'm tempted to let the kids loose on it with their steam libraries but that's probably a bad idea as they might figure out that their existing gaming systems with my cast-off 1060s aren't as nice as they think they are.

 

The older kid's system is rocking a i5-6500 and the younger's a 2600x

Hey now, I didn't tell folks to go drop money on parts. 

 

So far I am trying to keep myself from buying any new hardware until I get some more of my hoard sold off.

That's exactly what I have ... somewhere ... I usually keep it in the tub with my spare case fans (you know the ones that come with cases and then get removed when you install Noctua fans) and 4-pin fan extension, splitters and noise adapters. But it's not there nor is it in the other likely places.

 

I also have a stash of little pouches of paste that come with AIOs etc but can't find that either.

 

What will likely happen is I'll get some new paste tomorrow and when I go to put that away I'll trip over the others.

 

The only paste I have found is some Radio Shack white lithium thermal compound from the late 70s that I still use on the odd occasion when I need to re-mount a mosfet to a heatsink but somehow I don't think that would work too well for getting a solid mount for a 9900K on a NH-D15

Sounds like you need a tube the size of the comically oversized needles cartoon nurses use. You literally can't lose that, you'd at least trip over it.

I've just gotten out of 2 weeks quarantined at home with she-that-must-be-obeyed and three teens so I needed another hardware fix. This is just part of my master plan to conquer the universe get more threads for F@H & BOINC.

 

I found a great deal on a 8700 to replace my Pentium Gold 5400 in a Gigabyte z370 UD (weak VRM so it get's the 8700) and the 2700 removed from the x570 will be soon mated with a x570 Gaming X to replace the 12 year-old ITX mobo with the Athlon x64 II in my test system.

Well after messing with my PC all day, reinstalling the OS (mostly) which was 2 years of installed apps and data, I fixed my gaming rig. The OS was not my problem which I am now pissed about. It turned out that my PSU (brand new seasonic) has a loose PCI-E female plug. I tore the PC down and the wire pulled right out.  SMDH. we are all fixed up now and she is folding away.

I actually make all my kids build their own systems. It's a great bonding experience and with the oldest away at Uni gave me the confidence that if they did run into hardware problems I could talk them through it and they wouldn't get gouged at some repair place.

Does anyone know how I can change the work server for a WU I have? Just checked the server stats and confirmed that the work server for one of my completed work units is down and unable to send the results so it's just sitting there

You can’t. I’ve had a couple of these usually they go to a collection server but if none were defined it will just sit there losing points until either the server comes back up and it uploads or it times out

Damn. The work unit is just sitting there chilling while the server's offline and more and more work units are also programmed to send to that server even though it's down. I'm just accumulating a huge backlog of work units for that server. Not really interested about the points atm tho
