Have started folding for this team. Unfortunately my gpu is hopelessly old, and won't actually work with FAH. Besides, it is a 512mb radeon and so is probably useless anyway.

I do however have a 3rd gen desktop i7 doing it's best at all times, and a 2nd gen mobile i7 qm doing it's best at night.

Oftentimes, FAH gets stuck at the beginning of a WU, causing me to have to force it to dump the WU and start again. This sucks, because the system ends up doing nothing for hours until I notice and have a chance to fix it. Any workaround?

The give away has nothing to do with folding month, the folding month is a community run event, the give away is run by Linus Tech Tips.

I've been a watcher of Linus Tech Tips for a long time, and this folding thing is very interesting to me. I've got my computer setup and running (currently doing light work loads while I am using it, plan on setting it to medium when I leave later today). Where do I go to post pictures and specs of my folding rig? Sorry if this isn't the right place for this. This is my first post on the LTT forums.

God love ye're cotton socks. I can see why you always have to plug for people to "join the community forum": I can't even tell if anyone other than me can see my posts, they get ignored.

Thanks anyway, time for me to go find that deactivate button.

Heard the call on wan show with the giveaway, decided to join in here.  No GPUs that are compatible, so hopefully a bunch of Xeon cores will get me enough work done to be eligible for a gpu that should do significantly better.  :)

I had asked about the F@H Benchmark on the discord, but I don't listen and downloaded it and ran it anyway. I was actually able to find a modest overclock for folding and actually discovered that my 750 is failing certain workloads even at stock speeds. I wasn't able to get it stable even by cranking the voltage at stock, but strangely overclocking it didn't affect the resulting numbers that much.

I also tried to set up my system for the folding coin to hopefully offset the cost of running my server that is folding. Is there a way to merge the points from my old runs to the points from my new runs for the team? The name is different but the key should be the same.

I have been doing boinc and folding on and off for years, boinc I started like 5-6 years ago and have been running Rosetta alot while folding I started 2 or 3  years ago. I love to help but I keep wondering what am I doing? What projects help the most? Have I actually helped because I want to be helpful. My main rig is running right now and it on it's own draws 900w which is alot to run 24/7

Sorry, I missed this one.  Been a little distracted over the last month.

Please start a thread for the problem in this section and post your log file in a spoiler so we have have a look at what is going on.

Dumping a Work Unit is a really bad thing to have to do as it won’t get reassigned to another folder until the time-out interval elapses and so can delay the progress of the project it is associated with.

Nice that it just popped the fuse and not any other hardware. Likely not under warranty anymore either.

My lowly rig. Wish I could afford something like a 1080ti to put in for folding or a 2080 but alas this is all I have budget for.

The sad thing is it doesn't even put out any heat so I don't get any heat benefit in the winter. I have a gtx 690 which does but it is so loud it's hard to think with it even idling, plus trying to get an sli-on-one-board card to run side by side with a 1060 is difficult.

Next year I should be able to build some rigs. I want to mine NERVA on cpu whilst folding on the gfx cards.

BTW the 3770k is passive - noctua D14 with no fans - doesn't go above 80c. I have lost my noctua fan clips so I cannot overclock yet.

ppdpassive.png

That 1060 should be able to get you 390-420,000 PPD and produce some more heat even with the evil 11718 WU it is running. I was getting 383,000 - 405,000 PPD on those on my windows box with a 6GB EVGA 1060 ACX 2.0

This is an MSI GAMING X model so yes, it should. But I think it will if I turn off the CPU folding... most folding rigs are GPU only so that means they don't have many people contributing to the cpu projects, from what I understand they cannot run the cpu projects on GPU's so I try and equal my contribution.

I was CPU folding on 6T of my Xeon at the time so you should be able to get more performance out of it. I noticed it appeared to be CPU folding on 7T/C.

Conventional wisdom is to have 1 T/C for feeding the GPU (for NVidia) and another thread or core for the OS so perhaps if you "finish" the current CPU WU and after it is done try lowering the threads from 7 to six and see if that helps the GPU output.

Assuming, of course, you've already used afterburner/Precision O/C to increase the power limit to 116% and added a Graphics (Shader) clock offset (say +50 - 75MHz) to help things out. If you have sufficient airflow in your chassis to keep the card in the high 60 to low 70C range most 1060s can run up to 2012 - 2025MHz without crashing WUs but 2037MHz and above seems to be where my EVGAs either fail immediately or after a few weeks when they hit a particularly demanding WU.
