The Switch apparently stops counting your play time after a year

WolfDeville
Quote

Switch users are discovering that the console has reset their logged playtime a year after purchase. Although the Switch didn't come out in Australia until March 3, 2017, players who received Switches prior to then have been noticing an unwelcome surprise next to their Legend of Zelda "Profile" entries.

I have 2 opinions on this. The first being that it sucks for players that like to keep track of their playtime as a way to measure how much they've achieved in the game within a timespan. The second being that you can get away with being a low life because people won't know how much time you've put into a game :P

Oh good, now I can pretend I didn't waste my time on Breath of the Wild, Human Resource Machine, or Has Been Heroes.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

Clearly they weren't sure if the system would catch on, and decided not to put effort into anything past it's first birthday.

second best $180 I spent.

next to minecraft. $19, spent ~5 years playing it nonstop.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

How did you spend $180 on GTA?

As for the news story... Is this bad?  Yeah I guess.  Should this happen?  I would think not.  Does it matter?  I mean, not really?  Doesn't seem like a particularly big deal.  Then again, it does make you wonder why this happens... is it a bug?  If so, how did they manage to mess up this bad?  Is it intentional?  If so, why!?

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

They said they're fixing it, sounds like the time hasn't been erased but it's displaying it wrong. I still have my 200 hours in breath of the wild which I probably shouldn't be proud of

@TehStranger, your news entry does not entirely meet the posting guidelines.

Everything is good, but you need to add you explaining the news in your own words. Can you please add that.

Thanks

I don't know, so far my Switch didn't forget anything. Is it 1 year from the game was played. maybe?

Anyway, sounds like a bug to me in displaying the stat, and not actually loosing the stat.I am sure if you have the parental app on your phone setup, you can see how much you played each game.

I had almost 7k hours before I quit dota. My wife has over 9k between her accounts. I know pros and semipros with legit 15-20k hours.

I hope the steam stat for $ spent isnt accurate...

I'd probably be closer to 10k, but the fun of Dota has worn off over the years =/ still play occasionally with custom games tho.

The bug is tied to the date you first played the game. As I understand it they're doing a date calculation for that display and weren't taking into account the year. In any case, they put out this tweet before this thread was created....

Its actually a conspiracy to force a "bug fix" update when all of sudden we will have the entire VC available for purchase and thus violating wallets worldwide.

LOL. This is Nintendo we are talking about. Partial VC will be there, and purchases would be limited to 20 per month for everyone, world wide. First come first serve in trying to buy a VC game

It crossed my mind that this is one way they could have caused this, but I quickly dismissed it as far too stupid.  I guess I still have too much hope in humanity -_-

I cant even look at my /played time in WoW, its well into the years

I do take some comfort in the fact that i don't watch television at all, so when i get home from work i often turn my PC on, check my auctions etc then afk while i take a shower and prepare some dinner.  Well over a decade of gaming and no television.

The problem should be solved with the latest firmware (5.0) released by Nintendo.

The updates includes massive changes on the back, not much for us. Mostly blocking hacking the system,

This also includes a firmware update for your joycon's (no info), it need to be be manually updated, if you want, through the Settings panel. It will only update the joycons connected to the device.

This here of course isn't a major issue but it is just one thing after another that has me not interested in buying a Nintendo Switch at this point.  The thing that really irks me is needing a smartphone for communication online. No way I buy one until they change their tune on that somehow even if they have to bring out a new revision of the system.
