The Sleepy 8 Core Gateway K7-700

Here I present to you, another system I built with spare hardware that I don't need but really wanted. :P

Backstory:

The motherboard, processor, and graphics card were used in my second system for mostly plex, and backing up of some data but once I upgraded my main rig I downsized that computer to matx and gave it my Xeon E3-1230 v3. I always wanted to find a purpose for the old hardware that was retired. I decided I wanted to do a sleeper build and one of my friends had this lovely Gateway K7-700 shell that he used for his system that he had done some simple things to. These include: USB and audio on front, and painting the interior black. He finally upgraded it so I picked it up from him asap. :)

Update: I Stole a HDD
(From my main system) :P

Here lies my 8-year-old 1TB Seagate Barracuda that has been apart of my main computer since 2010... When it came in a Dell Inspiron 580S. Just gives me an excuse to buy a 3TB drive later.

Ah yes, it needs internet! I have just what it needs!
GXBfGr0.jpg

Lovely long wait for windows to finish installing... After going through it once cause fan on H50 got disconnected, overheated, and powered off mid installation corrupting the install and somehow bricking the flash drive with the iso too...
ss5InAN.jpg

Aaaanndd overclocking time... With some cooling problems due to a strong lack of airflow in this case. I need to cut out the front sometime so it actually draws in fresh air from the front too.

YLagn1e.jpg

Good thing I remembered (saved) what clocks and volts are stable on the 8120 and 680.

It's shocking to see how bad the old FX chips were as far as IPC goes. That physics score is only about 400 points better than an i7 3610QM running at stock speeds (3.1GHz.)

Yeah, it's still usable today with games simply cause of how slow everything is progressing right now. My Xeon E3-1230 v3 scores around 9.8k physics and gets the same multithreaded score as my 8120 in R15. (727cb stock Xeon & 4.8GHz 8120)

Spoiler

GTX 780!!! I had to rma my GTX 760 2GB in February, Asus sent me another but it was having weird issues not wanting to post/boot. They replaced it with a reference 780.

The card seems to be almost brand new, when I took it out of the anti-static bag the window still has its plastic cover over it and the I/O shield is spotless.

Note: Dialed the 8120 back to 4.6GHz because for some reason this ram gets upset if I run it past this speed... :( Damn slow wams. On a plus note the blower style cooler has removed a lot of temperature issues I've been running into. :)
