Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 100k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Gahh. I havent been able to drive in so long, stay at home order. I dont think I ever showed yall my jeep as it sits now though, so I'll send some pics :D

Still to come: Paint hood, cowl, and grill, replace windshield frame and wiper motor, front and rear bumper replacement

You didn't know about the elusive RWD SHO? Yeah, it was like the "plus" option they offered in 1991. Only a select few dealerships sold them to the public. Conan O'Brien had one. Here, take a look:

Is that where Subaru/Toyota got the idea to pipe some induction noise into the cabin?

So i've been working on a fox body mustang for the last couple weeks. (Thanks corona for the unpaid vacation.....)

anywho i'm restoring it starting from the inside out. God there was so much jerry rig on this car.... sooo much.. but my speedometer was broken so i got another gauge cluster used for a nice price that works and i'll have it installed shortly however i want to roll back the miles on it. Don't need the entire its illegal to do that jazz. first off the car is milage exempt, the odometer is a 5 digit one so it rolls over, and im not trying to put a fake number on it. just what the original odometer says. Im just doing it because i want to have accurate information and not have anything halfassed like half of this car

I need to have it about 51k. does anyone know how i would attempt this without messing up the cluster

have completely restored the interior of the car (door panels, all of the moldings, complete interior trim SEM painted, carpet, headliner, etc) minus the seats....... and the upper portion of the dash because i had to do the cluster. few minor things to still do though

You're going to need to open it up and take a closer look, you may be able to swap just the miles part from one cluster to another. That's what I did with an old Toyota I had when I wanted a tach cluster.

yea i sorta figured something along those lines, who is it disassembled? take the front glass/plastic off then the inner part of the cluster? i don't see any screws on the back leaving me to think its dissembled from the front

Probably, I'm sure there's guides online to take that cluster apart.

nope. my dad knows some people who buy wrecked ones and rebuild them but I will never own, one just like how I refuse to own a ford, KIA or Mazda.

Yes, I could have stayed more consistent in the 2nd photograph in terms of engine / drivetrain orientation. But I never asked people to identify the car, just the engine. The 3.0L and 3.2L V6 engines used from 89-95 and 93-95, respectively, are purebred Yamaha (as in designed and built 100% by Yamaha). The later V8 was based on a Ford design with finish work being done by Yamaha. Also had major cam problems. Since it's an interference engine, it usually results in a pretty bad day. I always stayed away from Gen III SHO's, my bread and butter was 89-95 era, spanning gen I and gen II Taurus SHOs. The Yamaha V6 makes about 73 HP / L from the factory, which is quite impressive when you consider it was designed and built in the mid / late 80s. It really was in a class of it's own. And still is, as far as I am concerned.

The Taurus SHO (Super High Output) was the fastest American-built four-door sedan; in fact, in 1989 it was the fastest four-door in American automotive history. And it cost less than $20,000. That's not a bad cost / performance ratio...

Yamaha also teamed up with Toyota for the Celica GT-S cylinder head. And if you put that head on a flow bench, the numbers don't lie.

Here Is my 93 MTX...

Second attempt at the boot lip spoiler using 3M VHB. Letting it sit in the sun for a few hours to melt the adhesive a bit while it's still taped up.

Almost done now. Just got the front swaybar + endlinks, roof wrap, steering wheel and rear diffuser and I think I'll be done.

-snip-

Tape's off, looking good.

Can't really drive around with the current rules in the UK so will have to keep an eye on it to see if it starts lifting at all. Considering using some clear silicone to seal around the edges.

well ... i like soobaroos, i used to daily a 2012 forester for quite a bit
it is a FB20 powered 4 speed automagic thing, but its surprisingly fun to try and throw around a turn cause its so wobbly yet stable :D

(have a 2015 Volvo V40 D2 now that my mom might steal it from me so i might end up dailying the forester again)
it looks something like this (not the actual car) Its my dads car so i have yet to try and throw it around the forest or a track... dont want to crash it xD

110HP in a 450LB watercraft? With a high performance and durable two stroke engine? I'll take two, please!

It's one of best out there, if not the best... for the fun meter, it's hard to beat. That's why I bought a second 96 XP.

With worx sponsons and a skat trak swirl impeller and R&D nozzles, it's very difficult to beat in hole-shot or in a closed course.

The newer seadoos are all couches as far as I am concerned.

The arctic cat sitting next to them is a 96 Arctic Cat thundercat 900 triple. No replacement for displacement, right? :)

has anyone known anything about this global time attack record car?

just curious what exterior parts makes this civic illegal for street use in your country (other than headlights that i've seen in other times have been swapped by a carbon remake)? are any of the aero parts making it illegal?

  1. engine wont pass emissions or any ecu reading test... or visual inspection of being stock(in some places)
  2. roll cage
  3. 4,5,6 point harnesses are not road legal here, only 3 point seatbelts are
  4. no headlights
  5. no airbags
  6. no wipers
  7. All of the not TUV approved parts
  8. do i need to continue?

“Time attack” sounds like piles peak.  Looking at your list it wouldn’t be legal in most of the US at least most of the time. basically not street legal anywhere near including the US.  There are a few things that would work in some states but not others.  The emissions test for one.  The belt thing would work in my state but perhaps not others.  Roll cages I think are not  legal everywhere but Actually required, though modern cars have them internally.  Usually.  Those “slam up when tipped” ones are apparently legal now. Seen beetle convertibles with them.  Weren’t for a while.  Couldn’t drive it unless buckled though.  Lack of headlights means it can’t be driven except in daytime, lack of wipers would be state by state.  It’ll earn a citation in mine unless there’s no windshield at all.  They can be hand operated though.  Some old model ts around with hand crank wipers.  I don’t know what TUV is

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

wow much restrictions, at least if for any reason i have a Civic like that i wouldn't be doing anything illegal for my aero parts, and just leave the main features of a car like point number 5, 6 be it

so i took the cluster out of my mustang today. ok i did say there was some jank in it.... OH BOY...

20200405_161931.thumb.jpg.abd8e95634befb99c1e5ddfa1f50f03e.jpg

looks like a previous owner did an led mod and then proceeded to electrical tape all of the original bulb contacts, then wired them all to the headlight switch as seen in the other pic below.

OH then it gets slightly more funny. i take it the leds were too bright so they sharpied the actual gauge faces lol, also below inside the spoiler

Na J type 10/10 is the way to go. you can drop them into a late 90s to early 2000s civic. there are kitted out J types in odessys that make 1400hp+ but I don't know the civics have enough space under the hood to go that far.
