Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 100k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

I was thinking about just getting a new set of headlights instead of doing stuff to freshen up the current ones but lordy my headlights would be expensive.
the normal ones are a lot cheaper but what my car is actually equipped with

but uh I think I'd rather just look at some techniques and seeing what results I can get.

yeah ... OEM headlights tend to not be cheap

Wintery mix + my 2/3 depth 6yr old Conti DWS with no ABS/VSC/TC. Fun commute ahead for me. Luckily I have fresh wax so anything will slide off and I just Rain-X'd the front glass but haven't done the sides or rear yet.

You're quite a bit colder than we are in ND right now.

Although I'm thinking it might be right about time to swap onto the winter tires:

...well, I might not be far from buying a 2004 Saturn L300 wagon. No, it's not a special car at all, but it's just the right amount of bizarre and useful.

Wagon life is worth the comments here or there lmao. So much more tool for groceries, moving stuff, buying new stuff. Heck when I got my new desk, which is a 60x30x1.5inch solid chunk of butcher block plus its legs fit in there with room to spare. Could have fit 3-4 more no issues.

I am gearing up to take mine to New Mexico from So Cal for Thanksgiving. About 1250 miles or so. I recon I can do it in less than 30 gallons of diesel with my tiddy wagon. Maybe even closer to 25 gallons lol. Have two black labs in the back with the seat folded down, about 9.5 hours each way!

V6. I don't think the wagon could be purchased with the 4cyl, at least for 2004.

My brother had a 90s or early 2000s Saturn sedan with a stick. Think got pretty decent mpg. His was a stick though with the 4 banger. Poor car was a bit of a pile as far as the specific quality of his goes. Was the most base of base options lol.

I'm thinking the original owner beat the absolute shit out of it doing pulls for the first 8(ish)k miles. 3rd and 4th gears arent too bad, so I'm gonna elect to leave them in the transmission for now.

Jacks Transmissions has been stellar to work with so far though, both their Sales Team and Service Seam have good quick communication and are super reasonable. They're even gonna send these back so I can use them as Desk ornaments 😂

Ok, couple things about that engine.

#1 it has a timing belt, if it breaks just throw the car away.

#2 they leak oil horrifically from the valve cover gaskets.

#3 clogged cats are common if the engine has been ran with a misfire.

That V6 should rev freely and pull pretty good, if it feels weak then likely the cats are clogged. It's a nice running engine, when they're kept up and running 100% they're actually pretty peppy fun cars with that engine.

#4 some things are a BITCH to work on, keep a close eye for coolant leaks like from the heater core circulation pump and plastic hose connections. You don't technically need the pump.

Bro you gotta push the clutch in before you change gears. :P

Not if you're really good at rev matching. 😀 I wouldn't make a habit of it but if you know your car well enough you can skip the clutch in higher gears.

While you can do this, I wouldn’t make a habit of it. The clutch is there for a good reason and is a lot cheaper to replace than a trans
