Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 100k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

You say nice but omit what you bought and didn't mention struts either. I don't have a good feeling about this one.

Don't worry, they're Eibach lowering springs, and I got Koni Yellow shocks/struts over the summer. I haven't installed the Koni Yellows yet because I was waiting to get the new springs first, but I got them because @bcredeur97 mentioned that they would be good if I ever wanted to switch from stock suspension.

they are pretty much the go-to thing if you can't afford truly good coilovers.

Ok good, I was having flashbacks to the idiot who had us put some cheap ass shit RaceLand on his VW. Horrible junk, tried to tell him, wouldn't listen, so we put them on and and basically it rode on the stops especially when he, 450lbs, go into it. The spring rate was just so soft and the dampers were just cheap shocks with different perches, nothing was adjustable except ride height, they were literally the worst crap you could buy.

if the coilovers are under a grand they may not be the best choice.. even then most of the really good ones I hear people talk about seem to always be over 2 grand...

My $1200 BC are the basest of base for coilovers. At some point I would enjoy upgrading them but to what I don't know. It would be the same spring rates but maybe better springs and swap the cartridges out, all the mounts are fine.

But you see this is why I hate coilovers... no one can seem to agree on what's actually good.

If I wanted a set I would have not a single clue on which ones to get...

Steel body and mouts are a must for me, I've seen what happens to aluminum when it's stressed and I don't want my parts to snap.

I'd like separate compression and rebound settings is pretty much all is all I'd like to add. Maybe longer cartridges and a little more rod length.

I was looking through some of the photos I took at some car meets over the summer, and I saw that the NSX in this pic had what looked like a welded metal front splitter. I'm just curious, how would having such a thick and heavy splitter affect it's functionality, compared to one made of carbon fiber?

I didn't know he had a youtube channel, but I came across his IG a few days ago... that thing is pretty nuts... I love that he went with an AMG engine over the standard "LS everthing" solution (but LS's are still awesome)

off topic; did my post laughing at the idea that BC's might be better than Ohlins get deleted?  I didn't realize how stingy the mods are on here

excuse my previous post laughing at this idea that got deleted... I was just too amused at this idea.  to put it into tech terms its like saying a 1050 is better than a 2080 Ti.  If anyone tells you that BC's are better than Ohlins you can consider their opinion as relavent as someone suggesting a 1050 is better than a 2080 Ti.

BC's are a decent affordable coilover, there's nothing with getting BC's... but lets not pretend they're something they're not.  F1 and Le Mans teams go to Ohlins to buy their dampers.  And buy is the important word here, they're never sponsored.  The highest level of motorsport that you see BC in is drifting... and 99% of those are sponsored...  maybe it was someone sponsored by BC saying that Ohlins suck doodoo...

Operation Figure Out Why the F-150 Isn't Starting (FOWFIS) has been a success. Had issues starting up but jumping the truck seemed to fix those, then it refused to start up at all and after taking the battery to my dad's house so he could check it, turned out the battery was just fine, so it was surgery time:

Shit quality pics because "angery mans in work parking lot during late evening yells at truck and curses Ford engineers (they make some bolts a real pain to get on and off)", but replaced the battery cables:
IMG_1594.thumb.jpg.616883877a1d81798c565f56b31f260b.jpg

And in the process broke my starter solenoid:

IMG_1596.thumb.jpg.ebfb5032b6e6f429a9e24b8b495e944d.jpg

Which turned out to be an excellent move, after replacing that as well the truck starts up instantly. Can't really fault it either, this solenoid has been kicking for about 17 years so I'm pretty sure it did its duty. And now I can pretty much rule out the solenoid and cables as causes if I have problems in the future. 😎
