Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

this car is isnt quick but wow is it fun to drive?? If you dont mind no power steering and having to cram into a shorter car at 6'3, having the engine behind your head and hearing the N/A v6 behind you while you slam gears is fantastic.

I think all cars have their own personality, and things that make them fun.

So last year my friend bought a '88 Fiero Formula.

Coming from a relatively slow Focus ST, this car is isnt quick but wow is it fun to drive?? If you dont mind no power steering and having to cram into a shorter car at 6'3, having the engine behind your head and hearing the N/A v6 behind you while you slam gears is fantastic.

It's only a 3800 V6 swap (or any other GM V6 basically) away from having a reasonable amount of power or a SuperCharged 3800 away from having an unreasonable amount of power. I like the seating position, I like how the feel driving, but yeah my Celica is slow...those are terribly slow with the 2800 V6. Supposedly the FWD 5.3 LS fits but I would imagine it's a nightmare to work with.

Absolutely, some just have terrible personalities that are horribly bland and boring. My Celica has this certain feel on turn in that's persisted through changing the suspension and tires for higher performance, that turn in feel is just part of the car. I change caster, camber, toe, coil overs, poly bushings, sticky tires, better brake pads, even better alignment, etc etc but yet that feel stays the same but in a good way. I'm getting used to the new 2023 Mazda 3 so I haven't had much feel for it's personality except that it doesn't feel like driving a new modern car and that 2.5 PY-VPS engine is torquey while the trans is pretty smooth. Steering is a bit lighter feeling than I like so I'm still adjusting to that. There's a lot of characteristics that go into making a car feel good to drive or feel nice or feel sporty.

I've always wanted a 86-88 Fiero GT, they are by far the COOLEST thing GM ever made.

I know two guys with 3.8SC swaps I think the one that was dynod made a little over 300whp on E85 runs 10's in the 1/4 mile iirc the guy that built both of them says "it's absurd driving them on the street" apparently they will burn the tires until you let off the throttle.
The LS4 does fit and it's probably not any worse to work on than the 60*V6... I mean exhaust packaging is a pain, and the transmission needs to be swapped out for an F40..
but the rumor is Pontiac designed the engine bay to fit a SBC but GM with their whole "no internal competition said lol no that would make it faster than a corvette" and then they gave it a 2.4 Iron duke for the base and 2.8 for the GT

My friend has talked about that as direct replacements, but at 72mph the car gets a bit squirley when trying to steer, so there's probably some suspension upgrades that need to happen before it's "safe" to increase the power.

But, as he said "I gotta choose between getting married and doing car stuff first" So the car stuff is gonna wait.

There was one or two available in my area, looking right now there's only an 85 GT (auto) left or an 88.

It was either THAT or something to do with it - Had one myself years ago in a 72 Pinto.
That car was a ton of fun and I don't mean to work on or to put up with either - Wish I still had it to this day.

I'm 6'3, and with the seat all the way back I had room enough to not feel like I was cramped or my head was in the ceiling.

What would cause what sounds like belt squeak, but isn’t belt squeak?

Its not the accessory belt, it’s nothing the accessory belt touches, I am at a loss here

The only thing I can think of that would make a rubber squeaky noise with the engine would be the engine mounts themselves?

If it's a LS engine then there went a lifter roller lol. Those'll chirp like a bird for a minute until they start slapping the cam lobe. Usually if caught early it's just a cam and lifters. If caught late better do the oil pump too and check some bearings.

This is on my 1994 ford escort, if that’s actually it that’s going to be annoying but at least not expensive to replace most of the top end if needed.

Timing belt tensioner or idler pullet probably locked up. Had that before on my ex's 94 Wagon 1.9L.

And let me add that you need to take care of this sooner than later. It's not an interference engine so it won't bend valves when it snaps but it will leave you stranded and paying for a tow, winter is coming and tows are like $70-120 now which is what the timing kit probably costs on Rock Auto for a good one like Continental or Aisin. Defo do the water pump. Good idea to replace the thermostat and plug the housing bypass that's probably failed so you get actually heat this winter.

That's fine. According to GM a cracked turbine housing is merely cosmetic and should not be replaced unless there's a concern.

Well seeing as that is literally the cause of the p0299 problem on like...all 1.4 turbos. 😂😂

And here's another problem on a 2012 Caprice.
