Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 100k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

26 minutes ago, Drak3 said:

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

It looks quite nice. But just looks like the Saab 96 as well, which is one of my favorite designs

Yeah it reminds me alot of the 96.

Hey guys, finally decided to pop in here and announce myself and my car.

Had her for a little over 3 weeks now, but the last time I came into this thread I hadn't got any good pictures of her.

She's a 2001 Mazda MX-5, second gen and basically entirely stock. I definitely intend on getting better looking wheels, I don't like the look of them at all.

Also a new head unit is on it's way, the FM radio is dodgy (have yet to fiddle with the antenna though) and there's not even an AUX in the standard head unit.

Haven't got any interior pics, but it's the black and red leather combo.

And yes that picture is unedited, I've disabled the master AI feature on my P20 Pro.

-snip-

welcome to the club. :D

Love the NB. all the smooth lines and curves

now excuse me while I drool over your hard top...

Cheers mate, as far as I'm aware it's its factory match, there's like 2 marks on the very back of it on the left, and chip just above the rear window, not sure how I'll flatten them out and make it look nice but right now it looks perfect from 2 metres or so.

I assume from your profile pic you've got an SE? Was very much planning on getting one myself, but just ended up getting a stock NB8B.

I wouldn't even worry about it... no one notices those little things, the rest of your car is really clean.

I have an SE that was specific to the US I think... though you guys got stuff pretty close to it. it's a 2002 SE in Titanium Grey(they made about 1000 of these in that color, another 1000 in yellow). Pretty much had all options except the Bilstein shocks, though it came with the Hard-S springs which is a bit weird.

Had it for almost 3 years now, and I've almost put 40k miles on it since(just crossed 131k!). Mine has quite the story... it's on it's third (and best) engine. The first one died under the PO's ownership, supposedly an oil change accident. It was replaced with a crappy rebuilt one that died about a year after I bought it, I got a used JDM motor and ECU from that 160 edition they had in Japan, and swapped that in... I think I might be the only one in the US to have figured out how to make that work without a custom ECU lol...

Fun car :) Love it. It's in need of some serious suspension overhaul tho.

Quite an interesting history, TEIN Flex Z (and then above that MCA Blues, though they're an Aussie business) coilovers is what I see a lot of people suggesting when it comes to upgrading suspension.

Bought mine a couple months ago from a dealership in South Australia, which is over 2,500km from me, sight unseen, only went off pictures from carsales.

As such, I didn't get much of it's history, dealership didn't care even though they run a fairly niche JDM dealership, so don't know about anything that's been replaced that isn't regularly replaced, or obvious. It has got an engine dampener, and a K&N air filter, and once I get my open license in less than a years time the plan is to pop a supercharger on top.

At least you don't have to worry about finding ethanol free gas. My 07 is Flex fuel but my other two trucks don't like it.

I've started using 100LL av gas in my TRX, ATC350X, lawn mower and old pulling tractor.

i mean as long as they still do what they intend to do in amber, it should be fine tbh.

The turn signal is the bottom row of LED's in the second to last picture (so yes they're amber)

Here's the product page. They dont sell direct so I goth them on ebay for $290 shipped (seller was dt_moto). Though I heard later if you email someone from Spyder you can get them for $250. Absolute perfect plug and play, LED's are satisfactorily bright all around, though at one point I was concerned the turn signal wasnt bright enough due to the way they fire downwards at the reflectors, but I was viewing them from very high up and close. Once you back up to where you'd roughly be stopped behind the car they're perfectly visible during the daytime.

I had looked at a bunch of options but nothing struck my fancy which is why I held off for so long. The most popular are Spec-D's which you can get on Amazon, they're similar styled to the RS taillights, but they didnt do anything special for me. Couple that with the fact that smoked taillights are technically illegal in NY, I just wouldnt have been happy.
