Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 100k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

26 minutes ago, Drak3 said:

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

But on a serious note, @AlwaysFSX take care of yourself man. Do whatever you have to do, we want you around.

I'll be fine :P

On a lighter note, once I get wheels and lowering springs I want to get all of the windows tinted (probably either 5 or 10% on everything other than the windshield of course and then I think I'll finally start to look into trying to squeeze out a little bit more power

Little bit? Nah, go big. Put a train turbo.

Omg Free valve is sooooo awesome!!!!

47% increase in torque

45% increase in power

15% less fuel consumption

35% less emissions With only one catalytic converter, no pre cat required :D

the turbo can be can be completely disabled and bypassed for fuel economy. Throttling is done inside the cylinder head so response is as good as it can be, the cylinder head is smaller.... Direct injection isn't used, port injection is... Can't wait for this to be implemented IRL, and I really hope it's reliable.

Exciting. :o

My want for a rotary project is crazy. But if all I can find are RX8s with about 10 to 20K on the engine I'll have to stay with pistons because I don't want to do an engine rebuild so soon. We all know some basic cheap, really good projects, like the E36, S13,  F Body, any other suggestions? As much as I'd want a NA Miata me being 6'5" that would be more of a pain than need be.

Another thing. Are Swedes generally tall people? Because my Saab has such nice headroom, even for me, which I struggle to find in any US or JDM cars. Like I have more headroom in the Saab than either of the bigger SUVs we own here

By little bit I meant hopefully be able to push about 245HP out somehow and keep it reliable. It only makes 170HP from the factory, granted it's got 200 lb/ft of torque which isn't bad for a little 4 banger

That may be a bit much to ask out of it. But at the end of the day this was and always will be a daily. So if it starts getting unreliable because of certain mods than those mods will have to say goodbye

turn it into an 2006-2009 Aero (engine wise that is) xD

I'm pretty sure a moderately sized turbo would be enough to achieve that. @MEC-777 You're a turbo person, what do you think?

Was thinking of doing at least an intake, turbo back exhaust, ECU swap from a 2000 Aero model and then seeing where that would leave me.

from what i know the B235E and B235L (2.3T) is the same engine as B235R (Aero) ... but only smaller turbo and different ECU map

Should be easier putting a turbo on then.

Something I really like about the car as is is that for a turbo car it has a fairly even power curve, as much as I love when turbos ridiculously kick in I wouldn't want that on a daily

Yeah smooth power delivery is always nicer imho.

basically swapping from the GT1752 to a TD04-15hl you need the turbo, water lines and banjo bolts ... xD

The thing is, the Saab will mechanically stay the same as now at least until I have a project or maybe if my mom would let me daily the mountaineer, because I expect for some things to go wrong and the car to be undriveable for some reason. (I'm pretty unlucky)

from my research ... yes

only it may be a pain up the bum to get to all that stuff on the car xD .... saab problems

I love the kick you get with a built turbo car (Joey's Integra was a great example of that) but he also had Vtec so you got a double kick basically, when boost came on then when VTEC hit, it's a pretty noticeable kick when you add boost. But I wouldn't want that on a daily.

Linear power is so nice, I didn't like superchargers at all until I rode in my buddy James' car for the first time, then he actually got on it and I fell in love with it, the whine they make grew on me too as time went on

That's my worry when I want to add power. Euros are known for their engineering for stuff to go certain ways. Adding a little over 70HP to a FWD wagon, may cause issues I can't see already

well ... saab engines are tough ... i think you can  squeeze more than 300hp out of a B235E ....

soo.... i think it should be just fine to get to Aero (B235R) power levels xD

jesus christ ... im turning into the forums saab guy xD

Yeah I think I should be fine, but with how rare they are in the midwest, no local places know much about them. Before I even look at ordering parts I'll call all the tuners within about 4 or 5 hours and see if they'd be okay with tuning my car. I'm sure they would have no issues if I did a basic plug and play ECU of some nature (Haltech, Megasquirt) something like that. But you can never be too sure

i think you could swap the ECU to an Aero ECU and should get quite a power boost .... if you do the TD04 swap

but yeah .. better safe than sorry

I think that would do pretty nicely, but an excuse to play with new goodies is always fun. But I want to do a fully custom dyno tune for the car anyway so a plug and play will of course make it easier

I love mine so much already, and it's bone stock with 112K on the engine (163K on the chassis, original engine was pulled and swapped when the OG owner had the car, not sure why but I have paperwork to document it.) So it'll run for a nice long while as well as long as I take as great of care as everyone that's owned it before me. I have full service records for the car. But I really want to do all of the maintenance I can before I do anything, new brakes, steel lines, fuel filter, pump, spark plugs, wires, do a really good coolant flush, and want to get my A/C issue figured out, it blows cold air, but it takes so long and it doesn't get very cold at all, everything. I also want to figure out how to get a new headunit in, but all I've heard is people having lots of issues with stereo swaps on Saabs, I do like my steering wheel controls, along with heated seats all around. The car is so nice.
