Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

talking about TD04 .... could i put a used TD04L-14T (a S40 T4 turbo) on the 1.8 and have it survive it?

the engine would be 1783cc instead of 1855cc (bigger bore and smaller stroke)

i mean why not ? just dont run a stupid amount of boost, you can put the biggest turbo on the smallest motor as long as the boost is at the right level matching what the motor can handle

i mean ... like get the exhaust manifold with the turbo and downpipe of the T4 and put it on the 1.8 and run wastegate pressure

it should work just fine ... just with more power?

I'm gonna need to get a bunch of air stuff for the air in my grandads shop. I have a compressor on order but it's under powered for the big one. I have some 3/8 (I'll need to double check that) line and some 1/2" line. Need to get quick disconnect fittings and Teflon tape.

Meanwhile everybody here, have some socket porn.

thinking of opening up your own shop then i assume ?  i was just looking through some online stores and god i dont know where to start.... sooo many shiny tools.... i want them all, already got a full ratchet and normal socket set, its only the cheaper stanley brand but its got a lifetime warranty and i picked up the 200 peice set for only 100$, just gotta start collecting wrenches, screw drivers and air tools and impact sockets

Down the road a ways, maybe. I know stuff like this is usually shop provided but I want my toolbox to be able to roll into any shop and have almost anything I could need and I'll I need is training.

ya thats what i want to do i was just wondering about when you said your ordering the compressor and setting up your gran dads shop i thought you were gonna setup there. im honestly in the stage of the game where i want to do the truck/ copach heavy duty diesel but have no clue what tools ill need and whats shop provided, im guessing they will have the compressor and air outlets along the shop (im hoping like hell the shops dont expect for me to buy a huge ass compressor for myself)  got this compressor at home right now http://www.tscstores.com/60-GALLON-IRON-HORSE-COMPRESSOR-P14828.aspx#.WBKUp-ArKUk decent rig but bad setup on it, got it going through a 3/8 regulator then a 3/8 water separator, then into 75 foot 3/8 hose up to a 100 foot 3/8 hose reel.... used it for sand blasting and it sucks, its at 100 psi tank pressure but only 40 psi constant on the blaster, gonna try and hard line it to the reeel with a t at the compressor for a shorter hose

Naw I meant in his garage/woodshop/where I work on my truck.

I just followed owed a list I found for one of the tech schools.

6-32mm metric wrenches

1/4-1 1/2" freedom wrenches

then pretty much the same thing in sockets and a 1/2" impact.

Screw drivers

picks

assorted pliers

3/8 and 1/2" drive snap on quality torque wrench (I chose CDI because they're still US made by snap on, just not as nice)

That's all I can remember off the top of my head. Most tech schools have their tool lists online so you know what you need to buy.

do you have to buy specific brands like the snap on ones or do you have freedom to choose any brand ? like could i use my cheaper end stanley socket set ? or would i be forced to go out and spend 500-600 on a snap on set ?

so apparently the cost to fix the dents on the corolla quarter panels and the doors and replace a wheel comes to around 2200..... that's quite a lot considering they're very minor dents. and plus it will take at most 2 weeks to fix

Because the paint has to be blended and the fender probably has to be taken off. Wiring has to be inspected, tire has to come off and wheel replaced, mounted, balanced, put back on, but yes it's a pretty penny.

@Midnitewarrior4 anything over 1/2" drive should be shop provided but I'd have hoses. Shop air is a thing too

i suppose, but i don't think paint has to be blended, only just to fill a few scratches really. but luckily the corolla has full coverage, so basically everything is covered by insurance, even a rental car is covered, all we need to pay is a 25 dollar refundable deposit for the rental.

That's why it's so much then. Just like doctors, they'll charge the insurance more than they would you.

Good hat it's rocking full coverage!

i'm quite glad it's got full coverage. it's worth the extra premium, because it's a buffer in case of an accident, so you don't have to pay out of pocket to get it fixed. and this time around, when i'm getting it fixed, the body shop will fix the damage from the first time the corolla got hit the first year we had it.

bikes... Honestly I don't know much about them. Get something slower than you want it to be, make sure it's something you fit on well, enjoy it. If you like it, you can always get a faster bike next time.

and be careful lol. One (not close, thank goodness) friend of mine in High school died shortly after graduating thanks to a lady in a BMW pulling out of a lot in front of him. Now he was an idiot and didn't have his helmet properly strapped on, and had no other safety gear, but still, really sad :(
