They should pay to fix it, or pay the full value of it before it got smushed

So the TRD wheels and anything else that you did to it, would also count for the value of it if it is totaled.

but the car isn't smushed. it just probably has a big dent on the drivers' side, as my dad told me. considering he got hit by a big rig, it's surprising the crash wasn't that bad.

Any idea of the whole story? where'd it hit?

well all he just told me was that he got by a big rig on the freeway at who knows how fast, on the drivers' side, maybe just on the door. i didn't get the whole story because i assume he has to exchange insurance, drivers' license, etc. but he told me it wasn't too bad at all, since he is ok, and he has proof of the crash, since he's got a dash cam in the car (it was a worthwhile purchase). so i think it might work in our favor for once, unlike the last accident on the protege, where they couldn't determine who was at fault.

relax, it ain't dyin. (i know ur just jokin tho, just sayin ;)) it's got full coverage, more than not it's gonna get fixed with insurance money. plus, with a hit right on the drivers' side, and a dash cam in the car, it's hard for insurance to say it's our fault. unless my dad did make some wrong move.

so my dad came back from work and now he's finally home. i got to see the car, and holy shit, there was very minor damage. and i mean MINOR. like it's just a small dent in the rear driver's quarterpanel. and maybe a scrape or two, and that's about it. my dad got so lucky, considering he got hit by a big rig. and i mean it was in traffic, so it's somewhat understandable.

that's what i'm assuming. he told me that the big rig was trying to change lanes, and he apparently overestimated and hit him in the quarterpanel.

honestly i think my dad would be real happy if they became fully autonomous, but i' just wished they had their own transportation network separate from autos, since they will still clog up roads.

in my idyllic situation you would use a large series of hyperloop esque systems underground, to deliver things to regional facilities. Which would then use a smaller system to deliver the package straight to your door. It would be a large investment at first but it would save a lot of money on fuel, paying truckers, and the trucks themselves. Plus if it was run off of solar it would remove the pollution that truck create and give us more fuel.

I'll bet you a  doughnut that won't happen on a large scale in our lifetime :/

Cars clog up roads more than semis do just on a pure numbers scale. ~2 million tracktor trailers in the US, ~255 million cars.

i suppose, but when traffic clears up, and cars get up to speed, all the cars behind semis get frustrated because semis can't accelerate as quickly, and it does create some chaos within a few minutes that normally would clear up later.

i wish big cities like san jose, san fran, and los angeles can use a system like that since it would free up roads for cars, either that or have separate freeways for trucks and cars, like in southern california, where there are different routes for the same freeway for cars and semis.

Part of that has to do with the legislation that gets passed by people that don't know how the industry works, enforcing speed limiters as low as 57mph on their trucks.

that's kinda what causes traffic, semis have to travel much slower than the rest of travel, and people following (hopefully not too closely) behind semis always get stuck behind. honestly they should raise the speed limit of semi trucks, but i can see it pose a safety hazard, like if a big rig gets into a high speed crash with a car, it can turn deadly fast. but make it a safe limit, like 65-70 tops.

lucky. i'm pretty sure california has limits on speed for semis because they don't want them destroying the roads and the ozone, even though cars are already doing that for years. fucking jerry brown man, he's wanting to kill off the gasoline car already. i say fuck that, let it live man.

really i'm so tempted to move out of california, because it's not a paradise for a gearhead like me. but i'm worried that when other states see how clean california is with their emissions laws, they will pick up these standards, and soon render the gasoline car redundant. that's the future i'm so worried for, because it means we won't be able to tinker with our cars anymore.

yeah, probably will move to somewhere in canada that doesn't require emissions testing. i mean they already have less strict rules on imports, so that's already a win for gearheads.

so i found out the rear driver's wheel of the corolla might be slightly misaligned due to the accident. i mean the body has minor dings, but i think something might have been messed up in the suspension, since it seems like the wheel took the most of the force. for that reason, it looks like he'll stop commuting in the corolla, for now, and just use the 260k mile protege to commute. still hoping we can fix this car soon.
