Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Certainly pretty fast for 1980's

But I thought they were always more like the every mans Porsche, not some speed demon.

The 914, 924 and 944 were all built in collaboration with VW to produce affordable cars to appeal to younger people IIRC. (Not sure if the 928 and 968 were also a part of that.) Besides, Porsche isn't the first place you look if you're looking for a speed demon.

That's what made me so confused about RCRs newest video.

Knowing these things, I wouldn't even expect it to be fast.

It's not fast, but it handles pretty well, that's why he said it was good at trackdays.

Well the 944 was by far the fastest.

They're also incredibly reliable, I know someone with a 165,000 mile Turbo thats been looked after well and runs just like new.

That's probably it.

I guess it's hard for me to consider that as track days don't really exist here.

So fast usually falls into the realm of spirited driving, which he said it sucks in :P

Most ones sold here are past 100k kms too.

Not really a surprise as old VW stuff actually was reliable.

I've been in a 924 turbo. Certainly enjoyable, but just as fast as let's say a 90's turbo volvo.

The 924 was never even close to fast lol. I imagine that they arent all that far off the pace of an NA Miata in a straight line.

I'd think the 924 turbo and 944s would be quite close.

Similar power outputs and platforms.

Most likely it does have.

But still, expecting the 944 S to be fast, is probably a bit optimistic.

And I'm more talking about objective kind of fast.

Depends how you define fast.

I class our Cooper S as fast, and the 944 is as quick, if not slightly quicker than it.

But yeah, it was never designed to knock you off your feet lol

The 944 reminds me of the Cayman. It isn't particularly fast with ~250 hp, but it was enough, and it handles really well.

I love the Cayman's, always viewed them as the car you go to before you get a 911, idk why.

Here in the UK there seems to be more Cayman S' for sale than the standard ones, so you get the nice power bump up to 300hp

The normal 718 Cayman comes with 300 horse right now, actually. The S adds another 50.

But a normal Cayman is honestly good value if you are after a small sports car.

Yeah, I was on about the 987's :P

They're supposedly really good dailies too, decent boot space and very reliable.

Would love to own one some day, maybe in 10 years time if I can afford one xD

uhmmm .... i found another problem the parents volvo has ...

to put it into reverse gear .. you need to sit in the passenger seat ... oh and its difficult to get into 1st ... oh and the gearstick wobbles around like its in neutral ... in any gear .... so idk when its in what gear ... any ideas on whats wrong?

it has had this problem before .. idk what dad did to kinda fix it

suspect atm is that the shifter bushing things are worn to nothing

All this conversation about old Porsche's reminds me of the 924 Turbo my brother could have bought instead of the SLK... :(

Still kinda mad with him because of that.

@MEC-777 TIL that with the current gen hybrid tech, teams can run the cars in EV mode for things like maneuvering around the paddock or practice pit stops.

Either that or I'm going crazy and they just changed audio tracks.

Bad example. Even I agree, the Huayra doesn't sound particularly good. There are plenty of other turbo'd engines/cars that do sound awesome and the new Hoonicorn is one of them, IMO. ;)

That subtle wirrr of the turbines at idle and then the screaming woooiiiiiisssssssss from the compressor when the boost comes on, backed by the lovely note played by the V8 engine behind it... mmmmmm, so good! :D For me, it's not just the sound that I love, but what is going on to create that sound, that makes it so appealing to me.
