Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 100k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Sad to see my Paseo go, but I finally sold it today for 1500 dollars. It was an amazingly fun car to drive with all 100 of its supercar-destroying horsepower and we had plans to turn it into a track car, but now I have my Corolla which could be just as capable someday.

imo as far as 3rd gen 4runners go, you should only spring for a limited model. and it's pretty fuckin hard just to find one under 200k; i mean i've seen one for sale that had 480k miles on original everything, and it was surprisingly clean. usually you can get by with a 2wd model too since those run a bit cheaper.

Why is there a 2wd 4runner?

The Impreza, for goodness sakes, has AWD!

Listen, those Paseo were GREAT cars. You got that indestructible Toyota reliability going on with a car that weighs about as much as a fart that has multiple higher power engine swap options easily available. You can swap the 4E-FTE, you can turbo the 4E-FE, there's the all motor 5E-FHE, and all the A series engines swap in easily as well so you can run a 4A-GE and it's variants or a 7A-FE for bunches of torque. Of course because the A series fits that some crazy bastards have swapped the 3S-GTE in there as well, basically it seems like any Toyota transverse 4 cylinder from about 1980 onward to about 2000 will fit into the Starlet/Tercel/Paseo and weighing in at under 2200lbs, that's a fast little fart.

Any of the tiny cars that you can swap engines into like they're Lego's are great though. Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi. You know you can swap a 4G63T into a fucking Mirage?

I present to you sir- the LS family of engines and the Corvette, Camaro, and the GM series of trucks

Not to mention the Northstar swaps into the Fieros

Less legoey than Honda, but the same amount of Lego as Toyota

With the exception of the Fiero those all CAME with a V8 install already or as an option so the swap is just one V8 for another and GM pretty much recycles the same bell housing patterns except in a few instances like FWD LS stuff. I'm talking about different families of engine entirely, like the Jaguar AJ V6 in a Miata would be akin to the 3S-GTE in a Tercel/Paseo. That's like...3 families of engine away from the E series that came in that car stock. Toyota, at the time, had roughly 3 common family of 4 cyl in the 80's and 90's for FWD (and mid engine too). The E series, the A series, and the S series. Generally speaking the E's went in tiny cars, the A's in medium cars, and the S's in larger cars. So a Tercel had a 4E-FE, a Corolla had a 4A-FE, and a Camry had a 5S-FE, if we're confining it to economy base engines. So stuffing a S into a Tercel is quite amazing given the E and S engines have ZERO similarities and yet it fits without a bunch of tube frame fabrication hoopla.

And at the end of the day it would still be a Tercel.

Much like with LS swaps- everybody wants the good engines with the toyota setups. I'm using hondas in place of the toyota engines simply because I know more about them. Nobody's gonna go looking for the lame K24 or the single cam D16/D17 to swap into a miata in the same way you're not gonna see many people puting your E series into a big car.

I wasn't talking about putting the little 100hp 4E into a Camry lol. I was talking about putting the 3S-GTE from a wrecked Carlos Sainz Celica GT4 with anti-lag enabled into a Paseo and then rallying the shit out of it because it weighs 2,000lbs and now has 300HP.

I'm sure people do swap a K24 into a Miata, same as people swapping a 7A-FE into a MK1 MR2 or into a AE86, sometimes torque and cheap is better fit to your goals.
