Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 100k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

All we can do is report the vehicle to VOSA who would then come inspect it themselves and condemn it but we as a company dont have the power to stop them taking it away

I'm not saying that your company does, I'm just saying that the vehicle is still on the road after the fault has been found, and that it is still just as big of a hazzard as it would be here, where we do not have inspections.

These guys most likely weren't the people transporting the cars. They are the general third party contractor the autoshow hires to maintain all the vehicles on the show floors, including cleaning them and moving them around after media day. Aka not related in any way to the Porsche dealerships. I saw a fair number of people wearing those shirts setting up the various manufacturer booths too, mostly putting in the barriers and shifting cars around.

Vinwiki on youtube had like, an entire month or two where there were loads of stories about horrible transporters. Makes me think that it would not be hard to build up a good reputation just by simply being on time and buying proper trailers. I mean shit, its not going to be difficult to have a ramp that folds up in half once the car is on the trailer, so it can be twice as long so you don't have to deal with bunk ass wood and do exactly what they did in that video.

Any Honda enthusiasts here?

I have a 2017 Civic Si Sedan and have owned it since summer 2017. It's a decent enough car. Got it because I needed an economical 4-banger with 4 doors and i didn't want a CVT. Originally avoided ktuner/hondata initially because i didn't want to mess with warranties. The car is completely stock outside of window tint and all-weather floor mats.

Getting closer to the 36k mark and considering the ktuner. How dumb is that?

Generally you'll be better off if you sell the car, and then take the money from the sold car, and then just dump all of that money into the car payment.

Note: that's just what I've heard. I'm still driving my first vehicle. Had it for like 4 and a half years and I've put like 70,000 miles on it.

Most of the time vehicles the dealer take as a trade they underpay you for, and then send them to an auction and make a buck on them.

The thing is, Toronto already has several very high profile transport companies recognized on both sides of the borders, and entrusted by a lot of the large manufacturers. So getting cars between venues is never the issue.

This is Canada's largest auto show mind you, so its simply not possible to have one company do everything. Nearly all of the temporary fixtures are contracted out. FWIW the panamera went up and down without issue for obvious reason, and I can understand ofr insurance reason why they wouldnt leave the RS on the floor.

But yeah someone's got some 'splaining to do.

honestly i don't think it's dumb. if you're in the search for more power, and you own a turbo car, then tunes usually are a great way to unlock some more power. i mean look at what hondata can do with the 2.0t in the accord. 300hp or so and 370lb lb ft of torque, just from a tune. of course that's the stage 2 tune, but still, it's pretty easy for turbo'd cars to unlock some power.

I mean.. if you literally floor it everywhere it wont last as long (especially a turbo car) so really you have to drive normally most of the time if you want to enjoy it for a long time.

but yeah the computer.. i mean it's nice to have a fast computer for when you need it. One day you might wake up and want to play some awesome game that your $100 chromebook wont run

The clutches in those don't like extra power. Check out vitviper. Hes pretty well known for good, reliable tunes.

I am seriously considering a 19 Si (now that there is a volume knob). You really can't beat the price/performance ratio of an Si. Plus I heard they get great MPG even beating on them. Is the wheel hop as bad as they say?

Mine has the all-seasons so traction is shit.

As far as MPG, I drive mostly city and i get around 30mpg. I enjoy the car for what it is, a family hauler that doesn't put me to sleep driving.

Yeah you can only get all seasons now from Honda. I'd probably just torch those until they are drag slicks and go to summer tires. I work at a Honda dealer so I kinda want to wait and see if any 17 inch wheels pop up. The price jump of tires from 17 to 18 isn't wallet friendly. I paid $118 a tire for 205/50/17 Continental Extremecontact sports. Ones for the Si are $170

Thats pretty good MPG. My Mazda 3 gets about 30 highway, but it turns at 3k doing 60mph.

Biggest complaint I have are the random rattles/vibrations that I have had since day 1, poor body panel alignment, and slow infotainment. But I guess those are minor for a 24k car with all the things it comes with.

Yeah, interior rattles bug me but meh. I've lived with the trip button rattling in the instrument cluster on my car since I got it. Hondas like to rattle because theres so many separate pieces to the interior.

Speaking of which, how is the arm rest and center console fabric? Is it the really scratchy shit? You can swap it out for the EX-L or Type R alcantara trim pieces but its spendy. I priced out all of them from and EX-L and its like 400 dollars employee cost.

What you got there is one of them Ja-Pan-Eese tiny cars with the engine that powers the front wheels and doesn't make any torx. My diesel truck stole all them torx from the Hondas and put it in my 3300 RPM redline of goodness. So that there rear wing ain't doin' nothin' but slowin' that tiny Ja-Pan-Eese car down, silly man. /s

Biggest complaint I have are the random rattles/vibrations that I have had since day 1, poor body panel alignment, and slow infotainment. But I guess those are minor for a 24k car with all the things it comes with.

Rattling in a brand new car is an absolute no go for me. I've driven a few and it totally kills the experience of the car being new. Makes me feel like I'm driving my old POS mustang.

I'm not saying that your company does, I'm just saying that the vehicle is still on the road after the fault has been found, and that it is still just as big of a hazzard as it would be here, where we do not have inspections.

If we were an MOT station we could, but as just a garage we cant do anything. Its shit but it is what it is. And at the end of the day if it goes wrong and ends up crashing and killing someone we're covered as we've got all the faults down in writing and the customer also gets an online copy and a paper copy and even told over the phone whats wrong so 🤷‍♂️

would this be suitable as a 140 mile/day commuter car? https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/d/antioch-2014-ford-fusion-titanium-turbo/6820065870.html i mean for the year and trim, that's a good price, but any reliability issues with the 2.0 ecoboost?

If you don't keep up with oil changes you'll eat vacuum pumps and have no brakes. Otherwise I haven't seen engine issues but I don't see many at all.
