Will this be a good build?

Bjorn24

So this will be the first pc I build myself (with help of course).
I want the best possible "budget" friendly pc, but that last as long as possible.
So that is why there are high end but also "budget" parts listed.
I also don't need a lot of fancy stuff just that everything runs good and can be overclocked maybe in the future.

so the list I put together:

- intel i7-8700k   (my mom will use my pc to render a lot thats why not the 8600k)

- Asus dual GTX 1070 8gb

ASRock Z370 Extreme4 or ASUS PRIME Z370-A

Corsair Hydro Series H115i PRO RGB

G.Skill 16 GB DDR4-3200 Dual-Kit

Corsair RM650x

Intel® 600p Series, 128 GB SSD

Seagate BarraCuda, 1 TB

Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-04

Note: This list is based on the prices and availabiltyhere in Belgium.

If you want budget, the 8600k is almost as good as the 8700k for gaming, and for $14 USD you can upgrade to a 2TB hdd

yeah I know but it is just because my mom will use my pc somethimes for heavy work and rendering...
Also I can afford this setup like this so the 8700k will be good for a longer time than the 8600k.
And for the hdd that can be changed thats no big deal ;P

Maybe change the AiO to a high end air cooler, and the NVMe SSD to a higher capacity SATA drive. And change the PSU  to the 550W version. Looks fine other than that.

Why a high end air cooler? I thought I could't go wrong with a good wathercooler like this, certainly for the 8700k.
And I also thought a 650w psu would be better just to have some left over maybe for later a 1080ti or when it is time to upgrade.

A GTX 1070 is a good match for an i7 8700K. I don't need some joke of a website to tell me otherwise.

That website is a joke.

Having a processor that's too powerful for the GPU isn't by any means an issue. If his mom is rendering, and it uses CPU power, then a more powerful GPU doesn't affect it in any way.

Why would it be a problem to have the 8700k with a gtx1070? I thought this card is plenty of powerfull enough...

It is. The site considers an unbalanced system "bottlenecked", which is grossly inaccurate.

that is what I thought... it is a good combo for gaming and for rendering a nice thing to have a powerfull cpu...

A high end air cooler will cost less, be quieter and more reliable than an AiO. Not as good cooling at higher noise levels, though.

450W is enough for an overclocked 1080 Ti system. 550W is plenty.

I'd personally avoid buying an Intel SSD, there are better ones out there.

Also, I'd advise getting just an 8600k, I don't think the difference will be -that- big and it will save you a buck

i5 8600k user here! I love my system, I really do. Though 95% of my desktop's use is gaming. The other 5% is university/googling stuff. The i5 will get you through video editing perfectly fine, though you'll definitely get more use out of the extra threads!

well it is a m.2 ssd and it is priced good so will a normal ssd of 120gb still be better?
And I edited the original post, I was thinking of the 8600k but my mom will use this pc for rendering so the 8700k will be better for that. Also for the future the 8700k will give me a little more power.

Yep I thought of buying the i5 8600k myself but if my mom also uses this pc to render why not get a little more power...
For me the i5 8600k would do just fine but also in the futere games will maybe more benefit from more threads so the 8700k will give me just that.

I hope we will see greater thread utilization! Sounds like you're on the right track with your build! Cheers friend! :)

I'd check if it is a SATA or PCIE M.2 SSD. And anyways, the difference is negligible for a boot drive and literally anything that isn't heavy read/write scenarios. You can get a 240gb Samsung 850 Evo regular SSD for like 20 dollars more.

Also, the 8700k has more threads, not cores. Threads are useful, but not -that- much. You'd be better off saving your money and going with the 8600k

Well maybe you can help me?
It is this one: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/consumer-ssds/600p-series/600p-128gb-m-2-80mm-3d1.html

it costs 64euro for 128gb.
Other options are just normal ssd's like kingston or sandisk for around the same price...

Well so the 8700k is not worth the money over the 8600k for rendering and future gaming?
