Did your parents like anime and/or video games?

Growing up I would often watch anime or play games (Console) with my mom. Even in college, we still occasionally binge an anime or play a couple rounds of COD. (I definitely wouldn't say she's a non-techy) Just a little curious if either of your parents/grandparents were the same way.

My dad do play video games, especially FPS games and strategy games.

I don't think I've ever seen my mother play a game of any kind.

 

I don't know if either of my parents would like anime. Both of them are pretty indifferent to movies and TV shows, so neither of them would have considered anime as something to like or dislike.

 

And my grandparents wouldn't care about any of those. I don't remember any of my grandparents even owning a TV, let alone a computer.

My dad scolded me back in the day when I watched this anime because of some mature scenes and back in the 90s they include it in prime time TV broadcast.

Neither of my parents were into anime or were really into video games before me. The last game my mum played was Tetris on the original Gameboy about 20 years before I was born. I never really got into anime other than Pokemon but i watched that with my sister. Their first foray back into gaming was when they bought me my PlayStation 2 and we spent hours playing Disney-Pixar's Cars and they watched me play a Spyro game and Star Wars Battlefront 2 for hours on end. After that they bought a Wii (Lots of Wii Sports and Wii Fit Plus) for the family and my Gran bought my mum a DS Lite and some puzzle games.

 

Basically I'm the reason my family got into gaming more because I wanted a PS2 back in 2006.

I dont like Anime at all. so....

When it comes to games neither of them do. Their free time go out on doing boring things. Watching boring stuff on TV. (my dad does some model airplane stuff tho)

All my mom ever does is reading romance novels and my dad just likes to watch either military channel or those weird discovery/ pseudo science channels like ancient aliens nonstop. 

 

They have different tatestes for entertainment

My parents are too busy to bother even glancing at what I do. However my aunt has and still sometimes watches anime with me. As for games that just a thing for me

This brings back memories of me growing up in the Philippines. This show, Escaflowne, Gundam Wing, Gundam G, Flame of Recca, even Filipino dubbed Dragon Ball. Good times.

 

On topic: My dad was the one that played the PS1 the most, mainly Metal Gear Solid and Tomb Raider. My mum isn't tech savvy so she was not interested in video games at all.

Well for us who are in our 30s and 20s, video game systems weren't everywhere so there was a high chance our parents just never grew up playing video games. Once we have kids, you can be sure things would be much different.

My mom didnt really have a TV growing up so that was a no go on both fronts. Now she is mostly into dramas and talk shows anyway.

 

My dad played some games, he had pong, a colecovision and a NES but stopped gaming in the late 90s for the most part. He also never gave a toss about Anime either.

Mom does not, Dad plays things very rarely like Burgertime.

My Mom was a large influence when it came to my gaming while growing up. She had a Gameboy Color when she was younger so she bought me, my brother and sister GameBoy Advance's. Than she ended up buying herself a PS2 that me and my brother began to use. She got a PSP 1st gen some years later and then ended up getting me a PSP Slim when that released. She still plays games to this day but in a decreased amount. When I was a child she would play games like Max Payne, Grand Turismo and Enter The Matrix.

 

As her eyesight got worse as she aged a bit she switched to games like The Sims, Lego Games and Similar games with less camera movement. They make her less dizzy. As of now she plays lots of mobile games (candy crush and Restaurant Management Games) and she still plays the Sims 3.

 

While growing up my Dad played games on Atari and stuff but never got the hang of it while my brother and I were young. He was always more of an outdoors man. That never stopped him from talking to us about games as he learned about games from listening and talking to my brother and I. He always talked or watched us play games.

 

I was blessed with a childhood with supportive parents who encouraged me to follow my passions while forcing me outside my comfort zone. They made me who I am today and if I could ever be half the parent either of them are I would be incredibly proud of myself.

my parents don't care about games, but because the anime stereotypes of its all just tentacle hentai they hate when I bring it up, but they do let me go to conventions so IDK.

My mom i think never watched anime, but she likes the style of the drawing, she has tried to play a few games with me over the years.

My mum and Dad wouldn't watch it and with my luck I would get in shiz for the ones I stumble upon. Games wise when I was younger I would have played racing games with my dad. Stuff like MotoGP and all. Not any shooters. I would say the one game I loved watching my dad play was MGS Sons of liberty. Just hearing him react to getting caught in the alarm etc was priceless.

My mom watched a bit of Gundam Wing with me back when it was on YTV.

As far gaming, my parents might have played with the Atari 2600 many years ago.  I did play few a rounds of Delta Force with my dad many years ago.  But that's probably the extent of gaming with my old man.

 

I play lots of video games with my kids though.

It's because of my dad that I play games now. When I was around 5 I was allowed to play Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader with him. He sat next to me and we built castles, laid siege to enemies and had fun. Shortly after he got me my first PC which was very bad, but it ran both games. When I got 8 he gifted me NfS Underground 2.

 

Then I got Most Wanted and Stronghold 2, shortly after I got Minecraft and a slightly better PC (1.8 dual core, 1GB Ram and a 128mb GPU haha :D).

 

I am really thankful for my dad to get me into PC games and showing me how wonderful they are, I still play Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader, even bought them on Steam just to support Firefly a bit, we sometimes even play together.

 

About Anime: I didn't get involved into it at all, mostly because I wasn't interested (and, uhh, other things) and my parents don't even know it exists, I guess. Though I got recommended some Anime by friends, aka you have to watch those, we'll see about those haha.
