The billionth GPU/RAM complaining topic

Well.....your rig is kind of weak (that FX8320 can't have settings lowered low enough in GTA V to see a GPU bottleneck). Sell the FX8320+motherboard when you know you could at least afford an i7+mobo from the second to 5th generation (since you could keep your RAM).

At any rate if you know or know some one who knows their way around the second hand market its easy to build a machine that is far better value than a console.  Because on top of having to pay a subscription to access the multiplayer side of a game on the internet connection you already pay for (something that really pisses my friends off after having owned the PS1, 2 Orig and late PS3 and having to pay for online play with the PS4), the games are insanely priced.  As in games that cost near or more than $100 AUD (without DLC) are common with the PS4 and Xbone.

I know my rig is weak, but it's not even worth selling to me. I wanna pass it down to someone I know. And besides, I have the money to build my new system right now, I'm just not willing to spend that much for parts that aren't worth that.

Just earlier a few weeks ago I got a XFX Radeon RX 560D 2GB Brand New for only $114. It is now a dollar more and it is almost sold out. Not the best deal, but it is enough until I can get a decent GPU.

Used to be over 100 available, now only 4 left.

All you need to do is replace the CPU (and maybe the cooler) with something second hand such as 2nd-5th gen i5 or i7. A very inexpensive upgrade that would see everything working better as well as your computer consuming a lot less power.

Nah, I'm ready for a whole new system. My case is dated and beat up, my storage is small, my cooler is cheap, my GPU is showing age (and isn't capable of driving triple 1080p 75hz, and I'm about to buy two monitors that match my main display), etc. When Zen+ launches, it's time, I wanna be more up to date. I have been doing some research and there's a good chance if I build my whole system at Microcenter I'll get a huge discount on the GPU, maybe even close to MSRP. Their deals are amazing, you get 30$ off a CPU if you buy a compatible motherboard too, and the r7 1700 is only 230$.

I've always thought about doing what you're suggesting, but it's just not worth the trouble to me. If I have to go to the trouble of setting my OS up again with all my billions of programs and customizations, it better be for a really good reason. Besides, I have a brother and a friend in need of some upgrades and I'm passing stuff from my current rig down to them. (Thanks for trying to help though.)

Despite all of these shenanigans, there are two things that surprise me today:

- How reasonably priced some pre-built systems are now. You could probably get an $800 tower from Dell or HP with a 4GB RX580, 8GB of RAM and some kind of Ryzen CPU. It's a very balanced setup that's perfect for 1080p gaming.

- How cheap the Xbox One and PS4 are. Microsoft and Sony must be losing money on these things considering how cheap they are, but they more than make up for it with game sales and accessories.

If people are willing to buy at those prices then that's the right price.  If I'm selling a worn out pair of running shoes for for $500 and someone ACTUALLY want's to buy them for that price, why should I sell them to you for $5 instead?

What a vile way of looking at things. No offence.

And yep, OP: The Miners really have turned gaming and computing to faeces, vomit and urine.

I don't mind selling my PC while making a profit, I can live without it and settle for a console instead.

yeah I got a 780ti used last summer for $150 on ebay. good thing the price has stayed fairly constant. would recommend to those who don't mind its power draw and heat output. runs roughly equivalent to a 1060 3gb or a 970 in most scenarios.

I am incredibly jealous right now... Really wish I would have jumped on a 970 I found for 130$ about a year ago. Oh well. :I

I wanted to get an Asus 1070 as replacement for my seemingly broken GPU and I fell off my chair when I saw the price: 700€! Like what the hell? I thought paying 120€ for my 8Gigs of RAM was terrible enough already, but this GPU prices? I only have a GT440 laying around here, and that card's pretty much useless for the games I play.

But you are right, prices for RAM and GPU are insanely inflated right now. Can't wait for the crash, to be honest.

I'm a little bit jealous, haha. I didn't have the possibilities to get a new PC back then, but that is a very good deal you made I'd say. ^_^

Before I started my apprenticeship in August I worked at a shitty Supermarket job where I couldn't even max out my hours. I had some other bills to pay back first once my apprenticeship money came in. But seriously, I am not going to pay 700€ for a ROG 1070, that's more than a month's pay. And idk what to buy as a temporary solution, given that my GPU really is done (which it looks like, but I don't want to give up just yet).

What are your full specs? :P

I actually saw a decently priced prebuilt at Canada computers the other day. It was $1,500 for a 1070, i7 7700k and 16gb of ram. The hard drive was a 512gb ssd. I should have bought it.

Sounds like a bargain I guess? I paid 970€ for all my parts (exclusing my 2 SSD's) and was quite happy with it ^_^

Lololololol you think his rig is weak, Im running an AMD Phenom II X4 970 build (see my signature for details) and honestly with my overclocking it does 1080p gaming on medium settings with no issues. To be honest focusing on CPU/Mobo/RAM overall build is a good idea for now, and just stick with whatever old GPU you have until things get sorted out.

I do really need a new CPU/RAM/Mobo combo though. My GTX 670 has no issues with FireStrike at 45 FPS but as soon as I hit the physics test my X4 970 and 8GB DDR3 1333 tanks straight down to 10-12 FPS. Now thats what you call outdated hardware lol.

I heard that BitCoin recently crashed and that GPU pricing should be on its way back down by mid 2018 so hang on and just wait it out, its all we can really do.
