can i flash a chinese galaxy tab sm-t800 to other region

Here's the Situation:

My friend has a samsung tablet that has been bought in china so it does not have google play and is stuck with "galaxy apps" as the only app store.

and that app store has chinese text all over the place even though the tablet language has been set to english. 

i found this site that seems to have firmware for every region

 

can i download a firmware for another region (like germany) and flash it onto the tablet to make it behave like it has not been bought in china?

what kinda confuses me is that my friend told me she had been on the phone with samsung support and they told her that in order to be allowed to even sell these tablets in china they had to lock 'em down so no other region stuff can be installed - i think that is only samsungs "official" answer since in theory one should be able to flash a different firmware onto anything (even a custom one if compatible)

You can try to flash the German rom. If it doesn't work it means they gave it a modified recovery to prevent users from flashing to change region.

so - if it doesn't work because of a modified recovery then it will just throw an error and restart with no damage done ? last thing i want is brick her tablet.
