ASRock Deskmini No Sound?

Go to solution Solved by Canada EH,

Very odd

I am sure you triple checked everything.

But...........

Do the speakers work?

You confirmed 100% the speakers work on the cables you want to use?

They turned on and plugged in, wires are not frayed?

The sounds work through the HDMI output

Hiya again everyone! So, with your help, I got both of my new builds running! However, it’s apparently clear that these computers aren’t done stressing me out yet.

For the past week (or, the entirety that I’ve been using it so far), I’ve been dealing with an issue where the Deskmini’s Realtek drivers sees any sort of headphones as a microphone, even if they don’t even have a microphone.

These are the drivers off the install disc that came with the case. Then after that didn’t work, I got fresh updated drivers from the Realtek site. No change. In fact, when there’s absolutely nothing plugged in and I’m using a VGA output, Windows seems to think some speakers are plugged in...somewhere.

Nuking all drivers and starting over had no impact. Reinstalling Windows had no impact. RMA-ing the case and getting a new one didn’t work. No matter how hard I try, the stupid thing stubbornly assumes any speaker is actually a microphone.

The sounds work through the HDMI output, though this PC won’t be using a HDMI output that has speakers.

What’s going on here? What am I missing? I’m like so close to snapping, turning it into a Hackintosh, selling it, then building a crazy transparent server build.

And you're plugging the speakers into the 3.5 that's farthest from the power button?

If you're interested in a product please download and read the manual first.

Don't forget to tag or quote in your reply if you want me to know you've answered or have another question.

so is the sound output just not working via the 3.5mm out?

I get that it's not identifying it correctly , but is it working?

Oh no...*facepalm*

Now that you said that, I tried a second pair of headphones. Those worked as desired.

Hmmm... I tried the first pair of headphones in another device, didn’t work. Then, another device, same result.

Well, I’d rather have dead headphones than a dead board.

Looks like I RMA’d the Deskmini for no apparent reason. On the bright side, this new one didn’t have an over-tightened case screw that needed a stupid amount of torque to remove. I was also able to better route the cable for my custom fan and the short cables for the WiFi antenna.

Thanks again! :)
