Yes but it asks me to make a new password I think, what about my 4 digit pin? Is that not good enough?

Yes you can have a password and a PIN for your device, and even both. For encrypting your phone, I don't know, Honor uses EMUI? usually emui only adds extra features and doesn't take away any, so just check if android itself in that version supports phone encryption.

Huawei reddit told me the system is encrypted out of box, but files are not...

joke apart, then I have no clue. I checked on my mediapad X2 and just couldn't find the option either, yet i'm sure the X1 had it?

Long term sustained performance probably isn't terribly far from flagships either tbh. Flagship phone GPUs can incur some pretty severe thermal throttle over a lengthy gaming session. Benchmarks make them look a lot better, though the gap diminishes drastically once the heat kicks in. 

 

As an example, my own phone, the LeEco Le Pro 3 (with Snapdragon 821) runs The Chase demo (not many demanding graphical loads that loop for such a test) at a flawless 60 fps when cool. Once hot however, it stutters quite noticeably, with framerates dropping below 30 fps. My dad's phone, the Honor 7X performs very close to how mine does when thermal throttling, except the 7X doesn't really exhibit any sort of throttling of it's own even under prolonged load.

 

The 7X, an aluminum phone mind you, barely got lukewarm, even after nearly an hour looping The Chase. My own phone can get pretty warm, though it stops itself short of being actually hot.

that's because the chinese have figured out passive cooling: use the phone case to cool the chip after a few layers. Honor 7X, Mate 10 Pro and others do it. Same on the Matebook, they have 7 layers to cool passively an m3 chip (keep in the mind the higher version comes with an m5) and it actually works impressively well, you'll slowly feel how the back gets warm with use but it will take hours of intense activity before getting into worrying levels...

 

I understand why so many brands are going for alumium even on low end devices, seems they are all using the case for cooling now. Notebook manufacturers, maybe take note?

I should make a correction that the phone is an Honor 6x, not the 7x.

 

The aluminum is a good thermal conductor, and it is also good at conducting heat into one's fingers as well, which would make it easier to feel the heat, which is precisely why the "lukewarm" feeling was surprising. the phone uses a Kirin 655 which is decidedly a low-end chipset. However, the already low-power components used (8x Cortex A53s + Mali-T830 MP2) combined with 16nm serve to make this a remarkably cool running chip, even under maximum loads.

6x, 7x, 8, whatever, they all use the same strategy at this point.

 

kirin 655 low-end? don't think so, I would place it in medium range, since it was in the p9 lite of last year.

Mine has the MT6750 with quad 1.5ghz & four 1.0ghz along with the mighty Mali-T860MP2! :3
