Idiots are tweeting the Telugu character to crash iphone Twitter apps

AtomicFrance

https://9to5mac.com/2018/02/19/teluga-bug-twitter/

Quote

It was last week discovered that receiving a single Telugu (Indian language) character would cause iPhone, Mac and Apple Watch apps to crash – and it of course wasn’t long before idiots started doing it deliberately …

iOS does not prompt you to install the update automatically (yet), so there’s a good chance this still affects millions of people’s devices at the moment.

I found out out about the bug from this video, then promptly texted my wife and all my iPhone using friends because I’m exactly that kind of idiot.

Go to Settings and install the update. Or spam your friends with the character for funzies.

For people who want to keep older versions of iOS 11 for the eventual release of Electra with Cydia Substitute (like myself), it's still a problem. And yes, I understand that there are security issues.

I would argue that anyone who tweets is an idiot!

I really have no clue what the title is nor what you are saying nor anything related to this, so I will leave you to chat it all up amongst yourselves.

Now I see you edited your post to fall inline with the guidelines.

Its your own fault, like Dr. Macintosh said then if you come across the character. If you make your own problems then thats what you get. Most jailbreaking now is just cosmetic.

Yeah, It doesn't affect me as I don't like/own apple products, last one I owned was a first gen appleTV box which I jailbroke IIRC. But I have family and friends that this might affect, but I almost always remind them to update when they come out. It's sad really, pranks used to consist of hitting people in the forehead or something, now it's killing their devices and potentially costing them a lot of time, or money... I don't know how true it is, but I heard that apple owners are even less likely to have backups than android users, even though it's pretty much built in function, so potentially people could lose photos and other precious things. A guy on Discord claims that a guy had this done to him by a "friend" and he lost a LOT of Litecoin as he didn't have a wallet backup :(

I recently copied over a Friend's phone of her pictures from a trip to Mexico to prevent such calamities from destroying them. I didn't get to the later concert videos however, so hopefully the thing is updated.
