Suggestions on Gaming Monitor $300 or under?

Beowulff83

My old Samsung syncmaster 206bw i think is slowly starting to die.  Flashes on and off for 5-10 minutes on cold start up before it warms enough to stay on.  Anyways I am looking for a gaming monitor for $300 or less.  I would prefer to stay closer to $200 unless the leap in performance is warranted.  Thinking 24"-27" but that is not set in stone.  I plan on keeping this monitor for awhile,10 years+-. I currently have a ryzen 5 1600 with a gtx 1060 6gb.  I do play AAA titles and some online fps, i am a casual gamer though.  I don't know if i should be 1440p or 1080p.  Open to all suggestions.  Thank you.

For a Nvidia 1060 I would recommend finding a 1440p monitor, but most are either 1080p or 4k monitors and the 1060 isn't as good with 4k compared to 1440p and 1080p.

Give me a list of games that you play so I can help.

Assuming 144hz

you need $399 for a 1440p 144hz IPS display, both are free-sync will work fine

Otherwise $200 for a 1080p 144hz TN display

You could also go for a 4k 60hz display and just run AAA games at 1080p until next gen GPUs are out

This looks like a great budget option.

AOC AGON AG241QX 23.8” Gaming Monitor, FreeSync, QHD (2560x1440), TN Panel, 144Hz, 1ms, ($299 @ Amazon)

Looks like a good option but is the 1440p worth the $100 increase over the 1080p?

LG 24UD58-B 24-Inch 4K UHD IPS Monitor with FreeSync ($297 @ Amazon)

I am not a fan of LG displays but it is a solid price for 4k ips.

what do you guys think?

If you care a lot about fps games you want 144hz, but if you're going 1440p then get one of the VA/IPS displays at $399

I play esports games and own that 1080p 144hz display, think I'd rather have a 4k display at this point, but probably 32" at least, you still run AAA games at 1080p, but you get the 4k workspace

That LG monitor is fine
