Malware as DRM - Gaming in 2018

Yesterday a flight simulator DLC developer was caught implementing malware in their installers to combat piracy, not just any DRM but one that retrieves a user's Chrome passwords which may include bank details and other sensitive personal information. Is this the new normal for intrusive DRM? I sure hope not.
