What do i need to know for upgrading?

I'm looking to upgrade my cpu. Ive got an i7-7700k compatible with my Lga 1151 MO, and an Corsair H75 cooler. Im wondering what i need to know when switching cpus, if there's anything in the bios or in windows I need to change, If my 650w power supply is enough.  I want to make sure i'm doing things right and I can't seem to find a good guide, and this community has been helpful before

What are you doing with your system?

the 7700k is still a very fast cpu. Its also the fastest one your board can handle so you will need a new board aswell.

But if your upgrading to the 7700k, just put the cpu in, it will detect and work fine.

You can't upgrade your current CPU unless you're switching platforms.

Your PSU is more than enough, provided you're running a single video card.

No. The next level of CPU's (Intel's 8th gen coffeecake) use a different chip set (Z370) thats not compatible with older generations, meaning you will need to upgrade the motherboard when you upgrade the CPU. Honestly though it's not worth the money you ill sink into the system, you wont get that many more FPS in games.

If you upgrade to a Coffelake CPU, you’ll need a new platform.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

Your post, and this whole thread is confusing. Are you upgrading TO i7 7700k? What is your current CPU? If you are upgrading to the 7700k on your current motherboard then it is just plug and play. Setting the BIOS to default settings is recommended before performing the swap.

Black Knight-

Ryzen 5 5600, GIGABYTE B550M DS3H, 16Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz, Asrock RX 6800 XT Phantom Gaming,

Seasonic Focus GM 750, Samsung EVO 860 EVO SSD M.2, Intel 660p Series M.2 2280 1TB PCIe NVMe, Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon

Daughter's Rig;

MSI B450 A Pro, Ryzen 5 3600x, 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz, Silicon Power A55 512GB SSD, Gigabyte RX 5700 Gaming OC, Corsair CX430
