R9 280 Question for 144hz/240hz monitors

Gandek

Had my PC for around 3 years and am going to upgrade to a 144hz/240hz monitor my GPU R9 280 doesn't mention having a display port here https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/2405/radeon-r9-280 only has 2x mini display ports? I hear you need displayport to run 144hz+ monitors at 1080p. I currently use DVI-D on this 60hz one.

You can also use dual link DVI for 144Hz, but mini displayport is basically the same as regular displayport so that is useful as well (with a cable from mini to regular displayport).

Yeah the cable i currently have is dual link DVI. I'l still need to buy a new cable anyway as i'm going to build a new PC soon anyways and give this one to bro with the current monitor.

have you considered that with an 8320 @ 3.5Ghz and a 280 radeon you'd most likely wont get FPS that high?.

Just saying, you may not take advantage of that panel. (Even if you swap GPU).

Lol i know somebody would comment this (i play cs:go at low res and get 200-300fps - go figure) + like i said im building a new PC sometime this year and giving this one to little bro. For any other games i play i'd be fine with 60hz as well so this is all purely for csgo and the slight bump in size will be nice for movies if its 24-25'

if its for CS:GO and you have nice performance, go for it.

Mini display port is Display port 1.2 equivalent. (introduced in that particular revision) so you can have 21Gb/s bandwidth. 1080p@240hz (8bit) = 14.93 Gbps so you are able to do it.

Don't get me wrong, i checked a few builds with 8320 and i saw a fairly consistent 100~150fps reported in CS:GO with similar GPUs. However, if for some reason you have 200~300FPS Kudos for you. Enjoy the ultra smooth panel.
