2400mhz vs 3200mhz

Hello,

 

I plan on building a server for running games in vms on windows server 2016 and was wondering if they would be a massive performance difference between 2400mhz and 3200mhz running with a thread ripper 1950x.

games in vms is normally a big pain.

 

Why windows server, its a good amount worse at this than linux or esxi?

 

Why threadripper? its still not great for gpu passthough and x99 or x299 is a much easier and more tested solution.

I would recommend switching to UnRAID or ESXi. I would recommend 3200 regardless of platform unless you want to overclock your RAM manually.

I require windows server for remotefx as the game are not that graphically intense.

Make sure you test this as most games ive tested won't work with remmotefx.

At the moment i can get 32gb 2400mhz of ram for £210 and it would cost me £350 for 3200mhz so not to sure what to do... is the difference really that big for cpu intensive tasks.

Don't bother getting the 3200 for that price difference. Look at Magetank's guide for RAM overclocking.

Thanks. Also I was wondering if I have 4x8gb of 3200mhz could I mix it with 2x16gb 3200mhz or would they be issues ?

OK thanks again mate. Last thing I guess it not possible to overlook 2400mhz to 3200mhz ? And then use 4x8gb 3200mhz with it ?
