Upgrading on LGA1155

shuri

Currently i'm running a 5yr old system, i5-3450, 16GB DDR3, GTX 970, B75 chipset.

The processor clearly is the weakest here. I want more all around umpf, especially for CPU heavy games such as Arma 2/3 or multitasking with Vegas and Gimp, and also for folding. I don't really play any demanding newer games at all.

Right now i'm looking at getting either a i7-3770 or Xeon 1270v2 for <150€ off of ebay this week and sticking a Cryorig H7 on it.

Would I get a good value out of that upgrade? I'll properly stick with these core specs for 2-3yrs. Also would upgrading my current shoddy RAM to a second hand 1600MHz kit be beneficial, knowing that i'm throwing money at a dead platform?

Cheers.

If it's really only 150 then yes, you should do that.  You can't build another system with significantly greater capabilities for anywhere near that money and the 970 and 16GB of ram are still plenty capable.

This is kinda old now. You should buy an unlocked processor so you can overclock it (like a 3770k) and your ram is old so upgrading is worth it. Your gtx 970 is good even today, I have one and it's good for 1080p gaming.

I do very well know that. Z370+i5-8600K+16GB DDR4 is over 700€.

B75 is a no-go for overclocking.

Go for the 3770, you shouldn't replace the RAM though, there isn't a big difference between 1333 and 1600
