This is a NUCLEAR BOMB !!! Ryzen 2600 gets 17% single core performance boost

As you guys know, AMD is to release the Ryzen 2000 or let's just call it Zen+ In April. In January the Ryzen 5 2600 already surfaced in the SiSoft Sandra database. The entry showed a processor called Ryzen 5 2600, which obviously is Zen+, the model listed is a six-core twelve threaded processor.

The very same processor once again has surfaced and seems to be the counterpart of the Ryzen 5 1600. The Ryzen 5 1600 shows Family 23 Model 1 Stepping 1, the new Ryzen 2600 reads out as Family 23 Model 8 Stepping 2.

The entry within the SiSoft database is:

ZD2600BBM68AF_38/34_Y (6C 12T 3.4GHz, 1.1GHz IMC, 6x 512kB L2, 2x 8MB L3).

And yes you can deduct anything and pretty much everything from that, including a 3.4 GHz base clock and a 3.8 GHz turbo. The new leak was spotted at GeekBench and seem to be interesting as it shows that exact same product code, the single core score returns a 4269 points and the multicore score now sees 20102 points. So let's call that a ~10% performance increase. Obviously, we will still need to learn if the new Ryzen 2000 series can tweak higher compared to its predecessor.

Now I know, it's not much to look at and Geekbench most definitely is not definitive and all saying, but I made the following comparison. BTW I assume the Ryzen 2600 is a non 'X' model much like a Ryzen 1600, and as such compared based on that being the fairest baseline. Note, the L 1/2/3 caches on the original Ryzen 5 1600 entry seems to be messed up, for the Ryzen 5 2600 they seem spot on. Also, the Insyde Software BIOS for Ryzen 5 2600 might seem weird, but that is a UEFI Firmware & Engineering Services Provider, indicating this test was using an engineering sample motherboard.

Who cares for the stock score, show me some OC'd scores xD 

 

I wouldn't get too excited though, my 1600 at 3.7ghz(on all cores) scored 4201 single core score. I'll bump it to 3.8 so it's matching the 2600's turbo and see what it scores.

Does the sleep timing bug affect performance scores? Like say by making the benchmark think that less time has elapsed? I was under the impression it only affected reported clockspeeds.

Yes that's exactly how it works; it makes it think less time has passed.  It actually makes cinebench scores higher, and makes it report high clock speeds due to apparently elevated base clock, but none of it is real.

No but I think what they meant is that they're not as reliable as a benchmark / have less credibility than something like say, Cinebench or Futuremark.

Zen+ was always going to have a bump in clocks so if this means 17% extra perf at the same power consumption or 17% higher clocks (i.e. we can now overclock to 4.5GHz+) or a mixture of higher perf and lower power consumption then we should get excited otherwise if its just higher stock clocks, it is nothing really interesting.

Because it's a bad benchmark. It doesn't reflect a chip's performance in the real world and doesn't seem to scale linearly with performance. It was also primarily conceived for ARM cpus and, although it's not good at benching those either, on x86 it's very unreliable and out of scale. 10% was already considered excessive and unattainable so 17% is just beyond comprehension though

Because it's unattainable on current Ryzen and they're not changing it that much ... at least that's what I've heard.

To be fair, +17% from 3.9GHz is only 4.5GHz~ and there are plenty of people stating Ryzen+ will hit 4.5GHz when OCed so in terms of clock speeds, its possible? 

Note: I'm using 3.9GHz as from what I've seen and experianced, 3.8-3.9GHz is what you can achieve <1.4V on a R7 chip. 

 

In terms of power consumption, it probably won't happen however it is still a smaller node so maybe we can be optimistic and hope for a tad lower in power consumption? (although Ryzen being on 14LPP and Ryzen+ being more performance-oriented probably doesn't help).

its on a refined node, but also ryzen 1 is on its more dense lower clocking version, because this new ryzen chips wont be used for epyc servers they can use the less dense better clocking library which by itself should help with max clocks, add to that whatever improvements glofo made, i don't see why they wouldn't be able to achieve a 10% perf increase. (btw 10% perf increase is a claim from glofo themselves on a pdf talking about 12nm comparing it to 16/14nm from competing companies )

Hm, I got my numbers mixed up.  At any rate though this is even more suspicious since 4.5 was the exact value found in the sleep bug investigation...

It just depends on what the specific task is. Testing IPC and net Uplift is far harder than people realize at this stage. However, model replacements should all have higher clocks, so at Stock the Zen+ should be around 8-15% faster (dependent on test). At OC levels, that's going to be a completely different issue. Sort of like the Skylake -> Kaby Lake changes if there is a clock ceiling again.

 

As for the score, Geekbench is wonky on x86 in general, but it points to some improved cache structure. Intel has found pretty solid improvements by improving the L1 & L2 cache performance over the last several years, though that matters a lot more in the Server side of things. Zen+ isn't going to servers, but it bodes well for Zen2 in 2019.

people have known that ryzen+ should be around 4.5 if glofo's claims are true for longer than the recent time bug exploit, what probably happened is that the guy that faked the result thought that it would be a good frequency to fake as it wouldn't be too outlandish.

Hm, well if this is real that would be fantastic.  As far as they've come, single-threaded performance is still the main thing they are lacking so any improvement would just help them.

Yeah right.

Why are people falling for this? It's not going to get 17% more performance whether it's single or multicore. At best it's going to be maybe 5% faster, maybe.
