"?" Is 1080p gaming dead?

The Gaige

It seems like everybody is talking about 3440 x 1440 Ultrawide Gaming Monitors but what if you have say have 2 760s in SLI & can't afford the 1070 GTXs, what does a guy do if ha wants a 3440 x 1440 Ultrawide Gaming Monitor & that is all he can afford because of his budget. Would a 2560 x 1080 Ultrawide Gaming Monitor still be awesome to game on?

BTW, looking at this one: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824025684

1080p at 34 inches isn't good. pixel density is simply way too low.

1080p gaming isn't dead at all though, and I'd recommend either getting a slightly smaller monitor (27inch maybe) with a 1080p ultrawide, or spending $200 more on a monitor that's 1440p ultrawide 34inch. it might not run great with modern titles and SLI 760s, but with lower graphics, it'll be fine. (plus, you can always lower resolution to 1080p anyway.

1080p gaming isn't dead, otherwise there would be a lot more cards angled towards 1440p. I personally have to play at 1080p since that's my monitor's resolution and just about where my GPU performance ends.

Honestly though, a lot of people still play at 1080p.

Most people still play at 1080p.

What makes you think it's dead?

I wouldn't get a 34" 1080p monitor. Look at the 29" ultrawides if that's what you wan to go for.

I'd also look at upgrading. As mining falls, you might be able to grab a decent card for a much lower price.

i have poor eyesight, and my 24" 1080p screens are just about right for me in terms of the size of everything on the screen, without using the broken display scaling in Windows.

i mean, i can't see the difference between 720p and 1080p youtube on those displays, so in my case it would be dumb to game at 1440 or 4k, because i won't be able to see any difference compared to 1080.

unless you mean ultrawide, but i think that the same applies there that i won't be able to see the difference between the 1080 and 1440 equivalent on ultrawide.

EDIT: when it comes down to what you could get, i honestly don't know. i have no experience with ultrawide...

I used to think the same until I got a 1440p 32" monitor. 24" 1080 doesn't look good to me anymore (which is weird since they are about the same scale wise lol) and my monitor isn't exactly super uber 1337 tier.

edit: black bars on either side would annoy me too much to go ultrawide.

i've got a 32" 1080p tv, and i can barely see the difference between that and my monitors. even from 1 meter away... it still looks sharp to me.

not at all dead.  high-end gamers are a vocal (and ostentatious) minority.  most pc gamers use low to mid end equipment.

you wouldnt know it based on posts from this channel and forum, but according to steam statistics, a giant portion of gamers use integrated graphics.  (i assume this is from a laptop they have which either games at 1080p or 768p

gaming at high resolutions either results in sacrificed performance or significatnly higher cost.

PC Build: R5-1600.  Scythe Mugen 5.  GTX 1060.  120 GB SSD.  1 TB HDD.  FDD Mini C.  8 GB RAM (3000 MHz).  Be Quiet Pure Wings 2.  Capstone-550.  Deepcool 350 RGB.

Peripherals: Qisan Magicforce (80%) w/ Gateron Blues.  Razer Naga Chroma.  Lenovo 24" 1440p IPS.  PS4 Controller.

Audio: Focusrite (Solo, 2nd), SM57, Triton Fethead, AKG c214, Sennheiser HD598's, ATH-M50x, AKG K240, Novation Launchkey

Wishlist: MP S-87, iPad, Yamaha HS5's, more storage

steam statistics: 71% use 1080p, i'm going to repeat: 71% use 1080p

ok, but 1440p or 4k is the second most used right, people are going to ask? NO, not even close :P
