CPU Cooler Performance Tier List

So uh, I just bought an Arctic Freezer 33 eSports ONE for my rig and an extra Bionix fan to go on the other side of the heat sink (because I'm a sucker for symmetry). Would this basically make what I have a 34 eSports Duo?

It would mean you basically have a Freezer 33 eSports Edition.

You forgot Cooler Master Z600, i know they don't make them any more, but they are still maybe one of the best bang for buck on used market.

It's a top-tier beast when you put fans on it.

Unless there's a standardized fan used between multiple benchmarks, passive coolers aren't included in the list since it's hard to narrow down / predict performance if someone decides to get the cooler. The Z600 is also particularly problematic in that the large gap leaks airflow which can widen the gap in performance between different types of fans.

At best and when using the same aftermarket fans on other coolers, it seems to trade blows with the V8. At worst, it falls behind 120mm towers like the Hyper 212+ and NH-U12P.

It may be a large and interesting cooler especially for its time but it's far from top tier and seems to be a strictly worse and less consistent Ninja 3.

I get what you're saying about setup, i have mine in duct config:

RMOYiQs.jpg

First iteration was made of just pure sticky tape, second was duct box made of cardboard and this is third final iteration where i used flexy duct tubing and tape, that change is mostly for convinience so i don't have to rebuild it every time i take the motherboard out.
It works pretty well for me, it doesn't let my FX 8350 go much over 50C, even on long 3D animation renders.

But ye, your milage may vary.

Hello ladies and gents,

Finding myself in a situation of whoosh vs sploosh dilemma. I've got a first iteration hyper 212 that's starting to get on a little bit, plus the AM4 mounting brackets having that weird orientation of top/bottom fan so I figured it's time for an upgrade.

I'm currently running a R5 2600 @4ghz / 1.275v, it warms up a little bit but peaks at about 70 during stress testing, rarely dips over 60 during usual gaming loads. I'm planning on upgrading to a Ryzen 4k in the near future as well.

Two things have caught my eye, the Scythe Fuma 2 and Arctic's Liquid Freezer II 240. I can get both for nearly identical pricing, and in most reviews I've seen both of them flex on the competition in the price bracket.

Which one would you guys lean towards, and why? Thanks a bunch.

Is the Hyper 212 orientation a problem with aesthetics? What case and ram are you using?

The 2600 is fairly easy to cool so either would be fine. At the same price, I'd go with the Liquid Freezer II 240 since it performs better which may come in handy for future upgrades.

I've got a Silverstone RL-06 and Corsair Vengeance LPX ram, so ram clearance won't be an issue. The orientation is partially for aesthetics, partially to keep the airflow going the same direction in the case (although how much of an impact that has, probably none).

The performance impact is fairly small especially since the case is fairly ventilated and the heat doesn't have trouble exiting the case.

Where are you shopping / located? Budget?

Hello friends, I would like to request help as I really dont know what to pick, im running Ryzen 5 1600AF stock clock, stock cooler(wraith spire). But where i live is very hot(Brazil, Northeast) and my Ryzen can get to 80-90 C on a hot day, it has even shutdown in some instances. But coolers are very expensive and a lot of the models are sold out/unavailable, and i need one asap. I need one that will give me some headroom if i upgrade my rig to a Ryzen 5 3600 or some Ryzen 7. Can someone help me out? I have in mind Hyper 212 Black Edition Silencio for R$300 or if i make a little stretch with my money, Master 620P for almost R$500. What you guys think?

Edit.: My case is a Cougar Panzer, mesh one. And RAMs are Corsair Vengeance RGB PROs

There's no specific link, as im searching the market in Brazil as a whole, but there are some good places like:

I just dont wanna spend unnecessary money, but also want the best performance (best bang for my buck).

If you're trying to keep costs down, the Gammaxx 400 is hard to beat: https://www.terabyteshop.com.br/produto/9465/cooler-deepcool-gammaxx-400-dp-mch4-gmx400rd-led-vermelho-intelamd

Yeah I've heard about that one, it's good and cheap, but i can go a bit further in budget if that means more performance, i want some headroom for future upgrades on my rig. The absolute extreme budget i have is R$500, but i would rather not get to the limit if possible. Maybe R$ 300 is a good middle point? Would the increased performance of the Hyper 212 be worth it?

Thanks in advance:)

The Hyper 212 BE performs similarly.

Due to the tall ram, the next step up would be the Mugen 5 but that seems to be mostly out of stock.

I really wanted dual towers cooler, are they really better? Like the Masterair 620P. As for RAM clearance i can put the fan in pull config rather than push, would that affect thermals too much? The 620P for example , with pull on both fans.

Edit: What about the other Gammax versions? GT/GTE, and the Scythe Kotetsu Mark 2.

Edit 2: Also what about the Gammax 400 with 2 fans?

The 1600AF is pretty easy to cool and the practical difference in more cooling isn't huge. The Gammaxx GT / GTE and Kotetsu MKII also perform similarly.

I'm not sure if the MA620P heatsink itself hangs over the ram as opposed to just the fan. What motherboard are you using?

If it fits, the Neptwin White is a good option: https://terabyteshop.com.br/produto/10968/cooler-deepcool-newptwin-white-intelam4-ryzen-branco-dp-mch6-nt-wh

What rank is deepcool gammaxx 400s? Compared to 400 red/blue v.2 the 400s has a lower fan rpm and lower cfm

(im using I7 4790 with cm hyper 103 and gigabyte z97m d3h motherboard)

Not sure. I don't see any tests for the cooler.

Were you planning to get a new cooler? The Hyper 103 should plenty for cooling the 4790.

Hard to tell but the difference is probably small. Why not just use NF-A15's?

I have few extra A12x25's for some stupid reasons, so I decide to do some experiments, but I don't have third set of fan clips.

I am currently using A15's on D15 though as I find it looks better with A15 (also quieter).

You can get fan clips from Noctua with proof of purchase.

I thought you just mentioned NF-A12x25's being louder in the previous post?
