Originally his idea was to "steal" extra-small condoms as a self-deprecating joke, but the store didn't sell condoms. So, he got a feminine product instead, and since he knows his wife prefers pads over tampons, he grabbed the pads so his trip would at least be useful. He used tampon in the title because it's waaay more search-friendly and eye-grabbing than "pads," which could mean a whole host of items. All that came from Linus himself.

 

TL;DR he took pads but used "tampon" for SEO purposes and had permission from Amazon to refund them and still take them.

So mislabeling videos to get more views, aka clickbait.

 

They didn't steal anything (stealing is defined as taking without permission) and what they "stole" were not tampons.
