Need helps or tips on i5 3570k OC

Finally finished my first pc build so I decided to try out overclocking.

 

CPU: i5 3570k

Mobo: ASRock Z77 Extreme 4

CPU cooler: Water 2.0 Performer

 

I got the 3570k to 4.6Ghz with (1.2V CPU-Z and 1.241 CPUID HWMonitor), and temperature around 60°C with ambient around 17°C after 12hrs of Prime 95 testing. I know the temperature is alright but I am not too sure about the voltage. What is the recommended max voltage for the i5 3570k?

~1.4v is the max recommended. You're perfectly safe until then. I'd try pushing for 4.8 or even 5 ghz if your chip is good enough.

depends on your chip, look like you have a decent one, just don't go over 1.3 and you should be fine

Max i would go without good cooling is 4.8Ghz @ 1.35v / 1.4v just make sure your certain that your system is stable

It really depends on chip

 

my first 3570k can go 4.4GHZ with 1.28~1.32vcore

my second chip goes up to 4.7GHZ with 1.21 vcore, my cooling system holds me back, should be able to go higher...

I get to 4.5 at 1.12

Looks like a good clocker to me, stop oc'ing once you hit 85c under a stress test, i landed at 5.0ghz this way.

Overclocking depends on your CPU's quality, the time you want to put into it, your motherboard's quality and the quality of your cooling. If the OC you stated is viz some OCing utility then your CPU has good potential for manual tuning. I am not familuar with ASRock motherboards so i can't advise you on OCing on one but my 3570k runs at 4.8Ghz with 1.22v after manual tuning.

 

My advice would be to see how far you can undervolt the stock frequency and then start overclocking from there. This was my approach to assessing my CPU's quality. On stock frequency, i can undervolt it to 0.808v on p8z77-v pro.

 

Also, remember to save your profiles to your motherboard for quick accessing and tweaking if your OC is not stable and when your OC becomes stable save it to a flash drive.
