Boni

Hello guys!

The I7 7700K works with ddr3 ram or only with ddr4 or ddr3L?

Only DDR4

Some boards can run it with DDR3/L, though it's not recommended as the cpu itself only officially supports DDR4, so any issues you may(and probably would) have, won't be easily resolvable.

That board can't even support a 7700k.

You'd need a cpu that's on socket 1155, so the best you could put in it is a 3rd gen i7(3770k). The performance difference would be about 20-30% depending on the applications.

And your board is socket 1155.

If you'd go back up and read my post i already answered that, I'm assuming you want to use the same motherboard though.

Or if you did want to change motherboard, a 4790k + Z97 board.

A 3770k or 4790k would be fine paired with a 1070.

If you're looking for a CPU upgrade for your current board, that would be an i7 3770K. It will however be slower. Still fairly capable mind you, however games do see a noticeable performance improvement if they're CPU bound.

There are some Z170 boards that support DDR3 and the 7700K, however they also tend to be low end boards. So high overclocks would be out of the question, and aesthetically they're not that pleasing.

You could, as @RKRiley mentioned, also go with a 4790K and a Z97 board. if you want to avoid buying new RAM, I feel this is the best option. It will get you closest to current generation performance. I ran a GTX 1070 and a 4790K, and they ran great together.

No motherboard exists that supports both DDR3 RAM and the 7700K.

My Gaming Rig (Build November 2014):

CPU: i7-4790K | CPU Cooler: H110 | Motherboard: MSI Z97s SLI Plus | RAM: Vengeance DDR3 1886 MHz 2 x 4GB |
GPU: GTX 970 G1 Gaming | SSD: 2 x 840 EVO 250GB and 2 x 850 EVO 250GB in RAID0 | PSU: HX750 | Case: Fractal Design XL R2 |
