Take a bicycle, I would. Every single bus, even the short bus on the small islands off the coast of Vancouver Island even have bicycle racks. Alberta is jealous!

I have literally never biked in my life.

I'll just take the 501. *sigh*

Also because the 372 is even slower it would be faster to do SkyTrain > 555 > 501

You need an electric bike!

I go everywhere, and do it from train stations. I can go 20km from train station in 35 minutes. I rock 55kph max on empty road, like rink road, on residential roads, 40-45kph, trails 35-40kph like walking paved pathways.

I never pedal, except to save battery juice on hills and starting off.

Every now and then when I get a flat tire, sometimes I gotta wait for 4 buses to pass before theres one with a bike rack. Like a bus stop with only one bus route. If I am lucky theres more then 1. Takes me to the train. Then call someone to pick me up. I bring my charger along, takes 1 hour to fully charge, usually Starbucks, Subway, any gas station, community hall, rink, block heater parking lot outlets, rotating signs, public washroom buildings. Yes I could ebike the 17km from Skytrain to rink, probably do 50-55kph easily, and take 16minutes. Thats if I dont stop somewhere, like seeing some hotties on a patio or sumtin. 30 minutes from downtown van, or 1hour from van airport sky train routes, plus the 15 minutes to ebike to the rink. Probably get pinched by the fuzz, I heard about your crazy laws in bc land. Gotta tap out at 35kph, so maybe get away with 40. My town, I get pulled over and they say nuffin, run my name see suspended license, no motorized vehicles, fuzz either to dumb or just dont care.

1. I don't enjoy biking

2. All the hundreds of times I've tried to bike it doesn't turn out right

3. I don't even own a normal bike

4. I don't have the money to get a e-bike

5. My commute is a 7 minute walk

Yeah Uber @Daniel Z.

Maybe Car2Go is in the zone for drop off.

Taxi cant be that much from King George Skytrain station.

I see the rate for Vic is

Flag: $3.30

Distance (per km): $1.93 times 17km

OUCH! PRICEY! $35 one way!

How about hoofing it 17km?

I see casual walking is 5kmh. so 3 hours.

9kph is good for people who run alot

running average is 4-6mph so a mile is 1.6km

Skateboarding is fun!

Electric skateboards

What about roller blading

thats fun!

If you book far enough in advance, you can rent a weekend car rate for $20-$25/day, unlimited km. Enterprise is great! I see looking at it now, $32 for a small car like a Kio Rio, and they are good on gas. Everytime I rent cars, I drive them really hard.

17km could be worse tbh for running. Most I have done is 3.5k, I am a short-medium distance runner. 100m is my best by far lol

We're not sure if it'll be BYOC as that would be a logistical nightmare, but there will definitely be some sort of LAN present at our next event.

tbh lan parties are, and if if it's ever a serious all-in lan party, it should be separate from the main event, maybe even different time of year. Rotate locations.

BYOC is the only way to have a reasonable size, and if you byoc you need to stay by your pc the whole event, partner system, etc.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I half considered doing international travel for the last one but a combo of factors worked against me:

1, more notice of date helps with planning travel a LOT

2, it was held in peak vacation season so ticket prices were through the roof unless you make reservations like a year in advance. July/August is about the worst possible time in terms of travel cost.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut

@CPotter

I have a good idea for the people that cannot attend the show...

So basically my idea is to have a live Cinebench R15 multi-core/single-core competition that would run throughout the day of LTX. There could be a link on the forum that would take us to a result submission page where we could submit our results along with a CPU-Z screenshot to show clear evidence, a team volunteers at the show could verify the result and put it on a leader board that would be on a huge screen. The people at the show would be able to see the leader board updating every few seconds however this is the twist, the person submitting the result will not know where they are on the leader board until near the end of the show when an e-mail could be sent with their place. The winners of both categories would win a huge prize set aside from the rest of the prizes at the show and would be recorded on another leader board that would be for LTX 2019. Do you think something like this would work?

We definitely want to have a few interactive activities that people can remotely engage with, not sure about this exact idea but we have a few others as well. :)

We planned LTX 2017 in about three months so I completely agree with you there, we should have the date fully locked in within the next two or three weeks (Tentative July 14th).

Thanks, I can start looking to see what pricing is like... more notice like this really helps, but it is still in vacation season... really hope to meet up with the crew some day.

Yeah unfortunately that month in Summer works the best for us, hopefully if the event gets big enough we can do an LTXUSA, LTXEUR, etc. :)

How about a video editing competition leading up to the even with those at the event voting on the winners. Maybe LTT posts some footage that never got made into videos and challenges us to come up with the best edit/compilation/whatever else we can imaging type of thing.

(Would also be a good way to scope out hiring prospects for the future :P
