GPU prices all over the world.

As title says, I am wondering when will the prices for GPUs drop.

As far as I know, GPU prices raised because of mining. But why? I mean I understand miners will need a large number of GPUs in order to mine Ethereum and other crypto currency but.. still BUT WHY?!

Why that thing has to affect us, the others, the ones that use the GPUs for normal productivity such as editing photo/video, gaming etc.

Also.. I really wanted to get a 1070 sooner but since the price raised in my country with almost 25% of the normal price.. I'll stick to my 1050ti for a longer period of time..

Because both AMD and Nvidia are to cowardly to make more because they fear a crypto-currency crash which means the used market will be flooded with used cards and they also will be stuck with piles of cards that no one wants to buy! O3O

 

Edit: If the crypto crash I will not buy any used GPU since it was probably mined halfway to death...

I know about that factor but I hope that at some point the demand of GPUs will be low again as it was a few months back. So GPU prices will at least be again 'normal'.

I'm not British so no, i do not queue  

But on a more serious note: I wonder how long the wait time is on that. Over here in the EU the button is grayed out with no option to reserve it, just a link to partners.

In Germany it says "buy now", but then it's out of stock

Anyway, you would only save something on the 1070 and the 1070i from the GTX lineup. The others are available at the same price at retailers.

Simple economics.  Law of supply and demand.  You're not the only one looking for a new GPU.  I would love to get my hands on an RX580 but not right at the current prices.

Miners out there buying up all our precious cards when there are ASICs specifically designed to be much more efficient at mining. And with the cost they put into buying all the cards, they could've just bought one of those.

This market is BS. Glad I got my RX460 when I did

I am also glad that I bought my GTX 1050ti at 15% less than what is now.. in my country.. but I am looking into buying a new GPU because I kinda upgraded my entire PC from 880k to i5-8600k and I'd like to have something much better when it comes to graphics. ( I do not say that 1050ti is not good enough for me.. but I want something better )

There are ASIC resistant coins like Ethereum or any other Equihash based coin - the algorithm behind the coin is designed in such a way as to require lots of memory and lots of FAST memory ... currently in order to mine Ethereum for example, the mining software uses up to around 2.4 GB of memory on the video card and reads bytes from that chunk of data at a speed of around 160-200 GB/s

 

If someone wants to create an ASIC he or she would have to license or make an expensive GDDR5 memory controller which adds loads of surface area to the chip making it way more expensive to make compared to other ASICs for other coins, and he still has to buy 4 GB of GDDR5 for each chip.

 

You can't use a SDRAM or DDR1/2/3 memory controller that may be available open source to mine ethereum, the bandwidth of such memory types is just too little (20-50 GB/s compared to 5-10x that on video cards)

 

The ASICs used to mine bitcoin for example are made out of lots of very tiny chips (a 2-3000$ ASIC has something like 168 chips each with some tiny amount of work memory, like 1-64 MB of memory)... as an analogy it's like trying to make a mining rig with 2-300 video cards, each maybe 1/4 of what a RX 550 card can do

And not only I suppose. There are many manufacturers that raised the prices so high that I bet one day no one will buy them anymore and they will set the prices as low as they were 3 to 4 months ago. 1080 barely reaching $650.. not almost $1000.

Asus in china is just outrageously overpriced. Normally their price point is like that,. There are same cards that cost 6500+/-, but they also put out cards that cost you 8600+ chinese currency. 

 

For me the miners jacked up the mid range cards. a.k.a the 1060s, 1070s and the 1070Ti s. 

For a certain amount of money I could have gotten a 1070Ti, but now I can only get a 1070. And the 1070Tis are priced similar to 1080s.
