Heh, just looked at the specs on my Gustard H10, it has a solid 2000mW (2W)  @32 Ohms.....

That's pretty good. I had @Legendarypoet buy a Schiit Lyr 2 for a powerhouse Amp, and he got the tubes and solid state "tubes". That things does 6W a channel at 32ohm out of a 1/4in, now that's some power.

Technically it was the Valhalla 2, then Schiit had other plans, lol.

That's great! Hopefully they are reasonable with the conversion from single ended to balanced.   It was only a $50 upgrade to add the Mini-XLR balanced re-jack to the Classics, but that was buying the headphones directly from them.  I wonder if they would give you a similar price + return shipping to send your headphones in just to have them re-cabled?

These headphones really crave power.  I think you need at least 1.5 watts per channel to drive them properly due to their 92db efficiency.

They refused to convert other headphones besides their own....

FWIW, I use the Senn HD800 cans on my rig, but they're attached to an amp, via a mixer.  I've been gaming with them since Battlefield 4, to give you an idea of how long I've had them.  When I first started using them, I found the gunshots and explosion sounds from BF4 to be ear crushing due to the mids.  Piercing, to put it one way.  Great for music, not so hot for gaming.

I kinda knew that going into the Senns, but I wasn't ready for the intensity of it.  However, tuning it down and boosting the lows a teeny bit was all it took.  Now the explosions sound like I'm standing right next to them, the gunshots still make me flinch and look around my room for the guy with the rifle.

I bring that up because I'll bet you'll get similar gaming performance out of the Senns you put into this competition.  Senn tends to lean towards the mid-highs, and they avoid the boomy bass.  But they can do it, if you just tune them with a mixer/equalizer/etc.

That is true an EQ will bring out some low end, however I don't believe in EQs. There is so much work put into crafting the sound of a headphone, that to me it's almost a sin to alter it. In my mind each set of headphones is its own EQ. Now if you only had one set then maybe you can EQ them if you'd like. But in my case it's not just the bass for why I like the T50s more than the 6XXs for gaming, it's the T50s imagining that I can't get over, it's so stupidly good you can hear footsteps with such accuracy it's scary and almost overpowered.

That's fine; I disagree completely with that sentiment.  Another hobby of mine is photography, and I only shoot raw.  Why?  Because I use the tools available to me (Lighroom, Photoshop) to bring out the "life" in the photo I've shot.  That versus letting the very capable camera do it for me.  Canon spent plenty of time and effort getting their in-camera image processing and compression set up to cut JPEG images that look fantastic.  But I can do a better job with a raw image file.

The same applies to audio.  Dial in some EQ.  It's not a sin; it's expected. :-)  You're not altering the sound of the headphone so much that it's not recognizable any longer.  You're complimenting it.

And as for your footsteps comment, I've never had a problem with that with any of the Senns I've used.  But I also use a very good DSP, and that ends up making more of a difference than the cans on your head.

Hey, that's just my opinion. It's not that the 6XXs are bad, they are quite good, but the T50s are just on the next level that you can't understand until you've tried it. As for the DSP you were talking about I'm assuming you are talking about virtual 7.1 or virtual surround which is a topic I am not going to get into. There is a thread called, "Is 7.1 Bullsh*t" where there is a huge argument with me and other audiophiles telling games it sucks, and them swearing by it. But like I said, not going to argue this anymore. Go look at that if you would't like.

Wha?  Hang on there.  I'm not getting into an argument either, nor am I talking about virtual surround sound or calling anything bullshit.  I assume you understand the importance of a DSP when it comes to gaming?  If not, our conversation won't go too far. :-)

Oh yeah, I know what you are saying, but most people when they say DSP  and gaming are talking about virtual surround, so that's what I assumed you were talking about.

I'm with max here, I do not mess with EQ at all, perhaps I'm been something of a snob, but I've spent a good amount of hard-earned cash on my cans and DAC stack/combos and I absolutely refuse to EQ, whether for music, movies or gaming.

Well, that's just your opinion....let me say I'm more of a purist, I pursue cans and gears to achieve the sound I want. I do NOT wish to affect any kind of change in sound through EQ. If you like EQ, that's fine by me, just don't pass a snide remark like this with a smilie (to cushion the blow, so to say) and not expect me to be offended.

I wasn't trying to offend.  Nor was it a snide remark.  I think you were somewhat missing my point.  Re-read my earlier post when I compared using EQ to shooting raw with digital cameras.  It's very similar.

Now.  If you want me to get snide and offensive, I can.  But not here on Linus' forums.

Max_Settings,

Sorry to hear that ZMF will not recable your MKIIIs.  I guess its back to the drawing board.  I found a couple of people that do recabling of existing headphones. (repairs and upgrades)  They may be worth reaching out to for quotes.

BTG Audio

http://www.btg-audio.com/services

Jay's Headphone Repair - 90 day warranty

http://www.headphonerepair.com/repair-pricing/

I have never used any of their services, but it looks like from their websites that they do good work.

Also if you need custom balanced cables, ZMF's stock balanced cables are very reasonable at $40 each. Most balanced headphone cables I see online start at around $100 and go up from there.
